From what i read, he had a mechanical before the climb, had to work hard to get back, but was dropped (or didn't quite get back) as soon as the road went up.

Not sure why UAE didn't send someone back to help pace McNulty back after his bike issue. He got back to peleton right before the climb but but dropped after going deep on chase back.
