let's not forget Brailsford defending Wiggo's non-attacking style (pre-Vroom era of course)

“If people want the entertainment value of riders attacking each other, stopping, attacking each other again and again, then go back to ‘old cycling’, which will give you the capability to do that."

I guess we're back to 'old' cycling. It's a shame no journalist(s) pick Brailsford up on the junk he speaks.

Froome only needs to attack one and there is no one left to attack again.

Arguably the most important quote in The Clinic history

Despite the self-serving data bending and associated propaganda to the contrary, I am led to believe that there are pockets of organised, highly sophisticated dopers even within ‘new age’ cycling teams. Personally, I don’t accept that the ‘dark era’ has ended, it has just morphed into a new guise.

The Great Doctor - Saint Michael Ashenden, September 2012.

Dick Pound aka God, responding to the question of whether cycling has achieved the full cleanliness, its journalists and promoters (totally coincidentally the people who make money off it), claim.

Until the alcoholic acknowledges there is a problem, there is no possibility of a cure. For cycling to go on and on saying that they don’t have a problem is living this dream and not facing the problem.

An instant classic:
"Take Bradley Wiggins for example, and his claim that he thought Lance Armstrong was clean up until the reasoned decision. I do have a little sympathy for him. While he's not particularly bright or articulate, if you read between his curse words it's clear that he has insecurities resulting from the fact that despite all the measures he took to win the Tour he wasn't even the strongest rider.

Not exclusively cycling but

Interviewer: After the 2012 Summer Olympics in London it was publicly assumed that "on average 60 percent of the athletes doped ." What is your estimate for Sochi?

Anti doping expert: It's purely an estimate, but if you ask experts and doctors who have been working a long time in elite sports how things look at the world class level, then you get a pretty sobering assessment. And that corresponds to everything that has come out in cycling. A common thread runs through all of sports. The odds are likely to be relatively similar between winter and summer. I'd say 60 percent is a reasonable estimate.

I don’t care what broadcasters, op-eds, ‘journalists with access’ or the sport administrators themselves have to say about this. I know the cycling fraternity are afraid to speak out, because I witnessed it myself yesterday. Omerta is alive and well in September 2012.

First, there must be something to hide.

Anyway Graham Obree

I still feel I was robbed of part of my career. I was signed up to ride in the prologue of the Tour back in 1995, but it was made very obvious to me I would have to take drugs. I said no, no way, and I was sacked by my team. So there I was, 11 years later, sitting there waiting for the Tour cyclists to come by, and something welled up in me. I feel I was robbed by a lot of these *******s taking drugs. I also hate the way that people think anyone who has ever achieved anything on a bike must have been taking drugs. I was surprised how resentful I felt when I was in Paris. It had obviously been simmering away in there for years. That's something new I'll have to talk to my therapist about

"They tried to suggest that I transfused my
father's blood. That's absurd. If I had I would have tested positive for Vodka."

Vino

"They think that my mother ad a chimera- a vanishing twin - that may be responsible for this"

Tyler

"They think that the Jack Daniels that I drank the night before may have skewed the epitestostorone level.

Michael Barry

http://www1.skysports.com/cycling/news/17545/8054988/Barry-announces-retirement. It is a laugh a line.

"As a boy, I was fortunate to have supportive parents who surrounded me with a nurturing community. Through the most challenging moments in my cycling life and career, my family has been the safety net that gave me the confidence to persist.

Translate to - I thought for a while cheating may be bad but I just knew I had to do it and enjoy !

"Firstly, I must thank them for their unwavering support and love. My wife, Dede, a retired professional cyclist, supported my career and goals and understood the sacrifices a cyclist’s family must make.

Loving it ! http://www.torontolife.com/informer/people/2012/12/17/needle-and-the-damage-done/

Your wife, Dede Demet, is a former Olympic cyclist. She defended you publicly when a teammate accused you of doping in 2010. Was she in on the lie?
She knew. It would have been impossible to hide it from her. Most of the doping I did was at our home in Spain. I kept the drugs in the fridge.

"The sacrifices I have to make Michael - never enough room in the fridge for the milk - it is always going off here in Girona because of all that gear you keep for the team in it, Zabreiski's bottles and whose are these ones here? Can't we get some labels you remember when Tyler forgot to put them on his bottles in 04 ?"

But best of all try these two -
Through my 14-year professional career I’ve been fortunate to race with many of the top teams. From my first coaches and club-mates, to Dave Brailsford and my Team Sky team-mates, I’ve had the opportunity to race and learn from many of the best.

"The needle slides into the skin just like this.........
"Thanks Lance.."

and "is that right Dave, there is no test for it and it is not declared illegal yet - wow"

and how about
"The emotions after crossing the finish line, sitting on the bus with team-mates....."

"Thank heaven motoman met us again......

These guys just keep on taking it - they hate the fans.

just came across this - french live commentary when Vroomie famously attacked Dertie on Ventoux like alien (120 rpm in saddle), caught Nairo, talked extensively to the radio, and eased the pace: guys discussing whether "they asked him to slow down so that he does not look so doped"

bring on 2014 edition!

Link didn't work for me. Maybe this one does.

guess what Pozzato (Ferrari's patient) had in mind in his post-Flanders words of wisdom:

“That’s what makes the difference between the champions and normal riders.”

Nope, nothing clinical, just plain and simple little "rhytm change" (probably good enough for "dope names" thread).

It is, but they have their careers to think about. Too many uncomfortable questions from a journalist and Brailsford will ban him or her from future Sky press conferences, a la Sir Alex Ferguson.

The next marginal gain, to win the PR battle, would be to send in a mole as an investigative journalist; and get them to ask questions that are seemingly tough but are actually easy to answer and clear up a lot of speculation.

That's pretty much what happens already. No one has ever asked an actual question that would catch them out. Its always a perfect lead in of the - what would you say to the doubters type. Wiggins when he went genius was asked - what would you say to those on twitter who doubt you.

Very easy for Le Gentleman (as the British media called him, because its not enough for Britain to demolish the Tour and finish 1-2, it has to be known that they are the most chivalrous and gentlemanly of all the cyclists:rolleyes:) to answer that. He ****ed it up though in typical wiggins style.
