Cycling World Records

Not sully the Power Meter thread any further than one person has tried. Here are the current World Records.

Apart from the U19 and Elite Men's Kilo times all the World Records for events contested at World Championships are very current. And even then the Kilo record is 2001. Both Kilo records were set at Altitude and it is very rare that Track Worlds are run at Altitude, Columbia 1995 and then Colorado Springs 1986. And of course Olympic Games was Mexico!

So while one can not provide any evidence that it is power meters have changed the playing field, I would say UCI regs and drugs have been the biggest factors, one would be naive to say that the sport has progressed.

Whole lot of World Records being set at Track World Cup in Mexico. Who said the sport wasn't advancing in the age of power meters and evidence based coaching!

What is used to break these records, higher cadence or higher gears?

It would also have to be a "fast" track as well, given the pervious records were also set at altitude.

Though whatever way you slice it the the record wasn't beaten, it was butchered.

Previous Kilo record set at twice the altitude in Bolivia. Great to see the event back in the spotlight where it belongs. Most of the Sprint records were set on Moscow which is a 333.33 track which allows the rider to hit the 200m mark coming off the banking. Or Colorado Springs which is 333.33 and altitude. So records in sprint events have always been set in special locations.
