vandevelde did it twice, once a broken hip in the Giro, about 2008 i recall, and gets back for the Tour.Benotti69 said:Dan Martin broke 2 ribs at Tour De Romandie and now is climbing with the best in the sport in his 1st race back a month later?????
How could he train with damaged ribs to be even in any kind of shape to race at such a level. Fractured ribs normally take 6 weeks to heal and that is not while training????
Amazing how pro cyclists have these super powers..........

Disagree - I broke a couple of ribs snowboarding a few years ago (only a few km from today's stage finish coincidentally) and was able to cycle no problem when I got home a few days later. Obviously it's very sore and it hinders your breathing a bit but you can kind of lock your ribs in place with your stomach muscles and you're ok. Laughing and sneezing were a lot more painful actually. I was fine about 4 weeks later.

that was my joke, even if this is post-facto plagiarism, i will still take offence if people give you creditBillie said:let's hope his new contract pays him enough to get his teeth done
I agree, we are both dissappointed he has left Vaughters and his scrambles.blackcat said:that was my joke, even if this is post-facto plagiarism, i will still take offence if people give you creditBillie said:let's hope his new contract pays him enough to get his teeth done

But you wouldn't be doing anything above aerobic (~Z2) endurance, IMO. And not climbing with any sort of bracing through your arms against the handlebars.
My ribs weren't broken through, just fractured and I couldn't do anything strenuous due to pain from breathing deeply.
I was sht scared of sneezing. Holy crap that brings back memories.![]()

sorry JV, but it aint
Some very basic painkillers like paracetamol and ibuprofen shouldn't need to be banned and would be necessary to ride through the crashes riders pick up, especially over GT's.flying_plum said:I'm a bit sketchy on all banned substances...are painkillers on the banned list? Intuitively it would seem like they should be without a TUE, but I can't find anything beyond hardcore painkillers like diamorphine (albeit with a very quick google search as I'm about to leave the office). I'm just thinking about some of the insane injuries motorbike racers race with, but with pain relief...broken ankles, barely-repaired collarbones, only-just-out-of-plaster broken legs...
I broke 3 ribs as a teenager MTBing and went to see "The Castle" a few days later. Michael Caton and Stephen Curry nearly killed me!
