Badminton Association welcomes ABP.

Badminton Denmark believes it is a good initiative that Anti Doping Denmark has introduced the ABP.

Denmark leads the way in the fight to avoid the use of illegal doping substances in badminton.

Until now, doping tests have only been carried out from urine samples, but for posterity, Danish profiles will several times yearly have blood samples drawn, in order to allow action against practitioners based on unnatural fluctuations in the ABP.

Badminton Denmark hopes that the ABP could spread to other countries.

- We are very pleased with Anti Doping Denmark's initiative and hope that internationalky the same methods will be used. We believe that badminton obviously must take advantage of the opportunities we have in the fight against doping.

- Three players have already given blood to the ABP, and more will follow in 2015, says sports manager at Badminton Denmark, Finn Trærup-Hansen, in a press release.

At Anti Doping Denmark sees it as a natural step in the fight against doping.

- We have found it natural to include badminton in ABP in line with our strategy of targeted and specific sampling and the desire to spread the ABP to sports, where we find it appropriate, says director Lone Hansen.

Badminton has been hit by a major doping case this fall as world number one, Lee Chong Wei, has been tested positive for an illegal substance and is now suspended.

Although many people here in The Clinic believe the use of ABP in cycling is a very "opaque" tool which is possibly used as an actual cover for doping, I think the use in badminton is going to be "transparent", as in an actual tool in the fight against doping.
I wonder if it will become a success, or if we will see doctors known from cycling get some consultancy jobs in badminton in the future...

hey man, back in the day, the competition in high school gym class badminton could get fierce. i've always said i was one blood bag away from winning the spring 2006 fifth period class tournament (lost in the finals).

Sweden has used the fact that the WADA lab in Stockholm hasn't been accredited for ABP analyzis (it was accredited for ABP tests in 2014) as an excuse for not having a bio passport program. It is of course BS, as there is no WADA accredited lab at all in Denmark, and Anti-doping Danmark has been testing for the bio passport for years. Somehow they have managed to send the samples to a lab abroad.

Interesting article you linked. Here's a little quote from the interview with Hans Holdhaus, leader of the European Handball Federation's anti doping department:

VG: But why is there hardly any blood tests done, only urine tests, in handball?

Hans Holdhaus: I've asked WADA several times without any answer: If a mistake is made during the drawing of the sample, and the player gets an infection in the arm – which he uses as a handball player, who is responsible? The player can lose money on that. Who is responsible?

Why doesn't WADA answer those requests? Is handball not big enough for them?
And I guess bike should just count their lucky stars they have two arms..?
