I'm not defending Sir Dave here, as he does talk some sh*t at times, but Sir Brad did win a mountain TT in one of the 2012 stage races he won. I don't think this counts as winning a traditional "mountain stage" (certainly not plural) though.

it was the Col d'Eze final stage TT at Paris-Nice 2012
it was uphill, but not actually mountain

I was as dismissive as you and then Sir Brad did okay at the Classics. Moreover, Sky's most memorable podiums were all in the spring too. He would have to ride Omega-Pharma-Whatever off his wheel a little ways from the finish, or bury other riders in an early sprint. It might happen.

Brailsford-talk is off to a great start in 2015. Need more interviews.
in his advantage. he has track experience. but i dont think he won any mass start races n the track in international competition. he has done well in the madison tho with cav, which still requires you to kick for about ~20 individual sprints, plus your partners ~20

Zenkai Brailsford will be happy with a podium at PR,hangs onto Canc/Vanmarcke and finishes 3rd in the sprint.Brailsford lauds it as "They said it was a race he could never do well in and now in successive years he's top10'd and now podiumed, what an incredible athlete Bradley is,so versatile, is there anything he can't do?"

Apparently he can't even qualify for a ride in the TdF that starts in Britain. Or that Vuelta he was promised as World's prep. :p

Cheerleader, spokesman, strategist, head of innovation, beating heart…the most shocking thing about this list is that until a year ago he was combining them with the job of running the British Olympic and Paralympic cycling teams.

Unfortunately, marginal gains are like chicken pox at pre-school - pretty soon everybody has them - which is why he needs something bigger if he is to get Team Sky back on track after the most difficult season it has experienced since 2010, its first.

It is at this point that every other team will be leaning forward, pen and paper in hand, waiting for 2015's version of buying the best bus you can afford, washing your hands properly, training on a volcano in Tenerife and all the other great ideas Brailsford has revived, borrowed or coined himself.

He's writing exactly what DB wants to hear, so he gets a second, nth, etc crack at it later in the year?

Do you really expect critical analysis of anything GB cycling related on the BBC? Its a piece written for a target audience of occasional cycling fans who just want to be told how rosy things are in the garden.

Matt Slater rides a bike so will have had a nice jolly to Majorca, got given some nice new Rapha kit and maybe if he's a good boy get a chance to buy a smashed up old team bike for £3k or after this article, get a nice new one as a present.

Now remind me again why he would ask a single tricky question?

Rather than run a black list and antagonise journalists, Dave B learned from USPS and has kept his potential enemies very close indeed. And if anyone is critical, then they obviously have an axe to grind, a single lone voice so nothing to see here.

I've approached a journalist with some details and been told that unless there is multiple corroboration or documented positive tests, they aren't interested.

Edited as I put Matt Barbet rather than Matt Slater.

spot on analysis.

Wallace&Gromit, ebandit, parker, Spud and TWH nod understandingly.

p.s. Perhaps Hajo Seppelt is interested?

I don't understand.

Bobbins is complaining that a journalist won't publish the information he has, yet declines to post the information on here.

Not that at all, they weren't interested in the information to do further investigation. That's what is needed.

They are probably looking at how Walsh cleaned up by letting others do the donkey work and get run out of the business like Floyd. If you think anyone will go public with details and run the risk of being drummed out of the sport then you are dreaming.

I think many are confused and think journalists write their own articles and do investigative work. They don't. They produce copy, have it edited then it goes to print.

Very few journalists actually write a story. This is a perfect example of filling out a few hundred words whilst saying absolutely nothing.

Irrespective of wether one thinks Sky are doping or not it's an apalling waste of license payers money.

The OP cuts out the best bit

If Sir Dave Brailsford had a coat of arms it would feature a magpie, a sponge and a Great White Shark.

A magpie to represent his talent for spotting shiny bits of knowledge, a sponge for his ability to retain it, and the world's most fearsome predator because of his appetite for more of it.

It would also be the best coat of arms in the world.

from a Clinician's perspective (at least speaking for myself) it's merely disappointing to see the lack of will to investigate.
At the same time, as you point out, it is also understandable. These guys need to feed their families and pay the rent.

Sounds like Walsh and his butterfly. Give me a headline from the Sun. Goh, Blimey!
Whether Team Sky have been the numbers-obsessed "Skybots" of legend or blood-and-guts warriors is a matter of opinion, but what is not up for debate is that 2014 was a step backwards.

Speaking out against Bruyneel is one thing. Speaking out against Murdoch is a whole new ball game.

In the world of sport, Sir David John Brailsford CBE
is known as the Mastermind, however if rock and
roll was his vocation the NME would surely have
bestowed him with Godlike Genius status at their
annual awards by now, as the OP suggests. :)

So it seems Team Sky were divided in two at the finish today..

One group sorrounding Viviani and one Porte...

Why not let Viviani ride for himself as long as Porte has a real shot at winning the whole god damn thing?

Of course it was bad luck for Porte, but if he had had a teammate close to him with a bike he could ride he would not have lost time...

You can bet on no accidents but is betting two horses how you eliminate potential issues..?

Marginal Gains needs an overhaul..
