I could have sworn he was 11th last year already. It turns out I was confusing him with Guillaume Martin.

Would it have been a problem if he'd finished 11th last year? You are allowed to finish in the same position two years in a row, right? Otherwise we'd need to have a serious talk with Pogacar!

And Wim Vansevenant.

Apart from both of them being French riders on French WT teams which has had the same main sponsor since being founded in 1997, both having a G as one of their initials, officially having the same height, never finishing in the top 10 at the Tour before, not having won any TdF stages, growing up in the North of France. having brown hair, wearing glasses, being born in the 90's, having ridden for FdJ, having never entered the Giro, being climbers, having had a successful 2020 Vuelta, not being great time trialists, going to the Tokyo Olympics and both being Tour de l'Avenir and Peace Race stage winners (though not at the same level), I must admit I fail to see the resemblance between them.

It wasn't his fault that Menchov for instance chose to give up and get a lift from the team car.

If only the same number of people had called it quits all three years!

But anyway; how to tell David Gaudu and Guillaume Martin apart:

Nothing to see here our German friend just move along.
Delete that before BlueRoads sees it and kidnaps him too! Or maybe she wants to so she can be an actual vampire.

I think it's too late to try and prevent her from kidnapping anyone...

He showed some courage today, but it was sadly never going to work out. He did get the red bib as a consolation prize though. If he had won a stage, he might have been able to win the Prix de la combativité, too, but because neither him, Alaphilippe or Latour have had a lot of success with their many attacks, Pogacar will probably win that as well.

"I was disappointed with my 2nd week so I said to myself that in the 3rd week I'd give everything. I'm a proud man and so when I take a hit I want to get back up" (from yesterday)

"I had the plan in my head this morning. It was all in. We tried. It didn't work in terms of winning but we had fun"

1: I know you're probably a spammer!

2: I think he had a pretty good start to the year; top-10 and BYR in Tour des Alps..., victory in Faun-Ardéche, stage win and top-5 in Basque, top-10 in Fleche, Podium in L-B-L, and for the more recent top-10 in the Olympics RR

3: Bit late to talk about "start to the year" in August.

I think I read that statement earlier this year, I'm not going to read through the thread now, but yeah, it's probably one of those "random quotes" posts.

And that after he just came back from injury...

He might be described as Pinot's successor. Not like this!

Gaudu is still quite a mystery. He was winning high mountain Vuelta stages but then drops 9 minutes yesterday.

Inconsistent. That's what Gaudu is.

It's a pattern with him, i.e. for 7 days he'll be with the favorites (or thereabouts) & perhaps win a stage, then he always gets that one stage where he explodes.

There's quite a bit of pressure on him as well, i.e. he needs to form a good duo with Pinot at the Tour but he's likely to fall into that unfortunate category of "only good enough for top 10, but still too close in GC to be given some freedom to stage hunt".

And that's always how someone who is pretty good rides the Tour anonymously.

Looking pretty good so far. Apart from his little attempt at hide-and-seek.

He's looking alright so far, but there's a long way to go. Would have been better for team if Pinot had won the stage today, if Gaudu ends up cracking. But if it happens in the coming days, they'll have plenty of time to target stage wins.

Not that I in any way hope it happens, but if he ends up fighting for 8th-10th, I just think it would be better to go for a stage or the KOM.
Also now that I won't get to see Martin in any breaks, I need my back up Frenchman to do the job for him.

Who's your back up Frenchman? Gaudu is clearly legs up Frenchman.
Also... he looks so silly sitting between Küng and Geniets.
