You might not needed to be Sherlock Holmes but calling out De Bruins gold medal exploits in Ireland in 96 was almost treason.

From memory, while Gary did not go as far as to call her out - he did not join in the flag waving.

He got warned by RTE to keep quiet about his suspicions of her.

Gary O'Toole wasn't a great swimmer by any stretch of the means but what a pundit he was. Great to listen to.

He was writing his suspicions on Michele de Bruin during the Olympics in 1996 a full 2 years before she was caught tampering with her sample and eventually banned.

I am sure David will be upset that someone who does not even know basic information about him describes him so

Well I don't know him well enough to call him David.

Michele Smith/de Bruin was where he first earned his reputation on doping. With Armstrong, while he was suspicious from early on he got a lucky break with Armstrong giving him an interview in 2001 that exposed more than Armstrong expected

Just curious, in what way did Armstrong expose himself in that interview?

In Walshs current book 7DS he says he had information that Livingston was a client of Ferrari.
At the time, Walsh did not know for sure if LA too was a client, he asked LA during the interview and he gave the "perhaps" answer.

It was because of that Walsh persisted and eventually got records that LA had stayed in Ferrara to visit Ferrari.

The Sunday before last, David Walsh wrote an article in the Sunday Times sport section that took up 2/3 of a broadsheet page and was about doping. He reported the bio passport investigation into Alptekin and criticized Seb Coe for downplaying the continued threat of doping to athletics.

But this will never be enough for some people, who will forever be asking 'we didn't he also do this, or this, or this'? Well, because he only has so much time and words and would like to write about stuff other than doping occasionally, perhaps?

That is correct. Why did he go embed himself into skybots training camp?

I thought that was a bad move on his part. Just my opinion but made him look like he is on the skytrain.

Since he was involved with other sports and all I wonder why he has not done what the OP basecase points out. "Yet he does not seem to have tackled drug issues in those sports with any severity"

The obvious answer to this question is that he didn't know how to properly wash his hands. His participation in the skybot camp has resolved this rather embarassing problem.

Can anyone tell he WHAT David Walsh is paid by Sunday Times to do ?

I thought he was employed as a Journalist covering a variety of Sports !

As a journalist , he would be expected by his employer to accept " Invitations ", some of them may be questionable to those evil sorts that inhabit the " forum " , but not to his Employers !

In the course of his journo activities , he will uncover " EVIDENCE " , which he may well report AFTER , his employers Lawyers have " vetted " this for their Principals ! Should those " lawyers " decide against the " risks " , as much as he would wish otherwise , he will keep US in the dark !

" Basecase " attacking David Walsh for abiding by his Employers requirements , reflect VERY BADLY on him !

In a " Perfect World " , we would know who " basecase " really is , whether that person has credibility OR is a " blow hard " looking to denigrate a Journalist that has done great service for his Employers !

He is just working for a multi colored fish wrap and when someone try's to ask why he is not doing more stories on different sports, the Cavalry shows up and says "but hey wait he was at the CocaCola Olympics and was going after an Irish Swimmer". Well OK then.

can't recall if gary o'toole called her out at the time -maybe not

If memory serves, he did. Before she swam a stroke he expressed severe reservstions on RTE. The came down on him like a ton of bricks so he let it go. If its the samr guy I, m thinking of.

He was even criticised on this thread for accepting Sky's offer. Can you imagine the criticism on this forum if he'd have turned it down?

He continues to be a fine journalist.
