this was in Bob's announcement posted yesterday. "We will see the Decorah fledglings less and less as they take to the sky. We will soon be shutting down the cameras, closing chat, and suspending most Facebook wall posting, although we will continue to provide updates as they become available."

ALL 3 HAVE FLEDGED ~ ~
When Jim from RRP arrived on site this morning, here is what he said: "When I got to the location, one was on the house, one was on the power pole and the third was on the concrete by the tout raceways at the hatchery." Jim also said, "The one on the ground took flight and landed on the house".

My thanks to BroDeal for posting this thread. Watching the eaglets grow and fledge has been a most memorable experience:D
I look forward to next year.
Here is a recap of the last 3 months
Decorah Eagles Tribute
In February 2011, Bob Anderson, Director of The Raptor Resource Project began live streaming of the Decorah, Iowa Eagles on USTREAM. Eggs were laid in Feb. and March 2011, hatchings occurred in April 2011, and all 3 eaglets had fledged by June 23. This is a tribute to all of the RRP staff that provided a memorable 3 months.

I have a hard time getting excited about Bald Eagles. They're simply all over Minnesota. Sort of like deer.

I guess that means our conservation efforts have worked wonderfully.

Hi everyone, here is the latest tracking map for D1, showing information through yesterday, 7/27. So far, the farthest distance traveled is about 2/3 of a mile. The tracking website is still not ready yet, we will let you know as soon as it is. Camera shut down is planned for late afternoon this coming Sunday, July 31st. Bob saw all three eaglets today and said they are doing great.

Just a little update

Where is D1? interactive map

"Greetings everyone: D1 continues to amaze me with her travels. The transmitter is working fantastic. The battery level is keeping charged and today's Argos data reflects signals from last evening well into the night. Evidently D1 did not like Northern Minnesota and has returned to the densely packed area of lakes in Burnett County, WI.

D1 Photograph from Morning of 8/31

D1 is in a tree overlooking Yellow Lake in WI. It was raining and she looks a bit soaked but, she has a full crop and must be feeding well. D1 is doing very well living on this pristine northern WI lake.

Raptor Resource Project
Just so everyone knows, the new cameras, cables and microphone were installed at the Decorah nest today. Bob & crew left the eagles a nice treat in the nest upon completion of their work. :) Join us on Ustream to continue watching the eagle parents working on their nest as they have been for several days already. http://www.ustream.tv/decoraheagles

~ D1 Holiday Travels ~

As of yesterday afternoon, Dec. 22nd, D1 was still in the same area she has been for a few days now. About 1/3 mile south of Brownsville, MN, roughly 37 miles from Decorah. She is still following the Mississippi River. The island she is on is about 1/2 mile from shore. Bob suspects she and the other eagles she is hanging out with are feeding on gizzard shad. During winter, a small fish – gizzard shad – an eagle favorite, is affected by the cold weather and they die as a result. If they have survived, they swim erratically and close to the surface, making them an easy target for eagles. Bob calls this a natural phenomenon, and he believes with the next cold snap the water will freeze over and D1 will have to then move to open water.

D1's Travels via Google Map
The google map shows the travels of D1, the transmittered Decorah eagle. We are using a transmitter to collect the data, which is mapped via satellite and interpreted by the eagle biologist with whom we are working. Mouse over the markers or click a date for more information about where D1 is now. Click a marker to get the distance from her natal nest in Decorah, IA
