I have always enjoyed watching Di Luca race, but this is ridiculous. My thoughts have already been mentioned by others: Kohl was hosed, Di Luca probably sold out E Basso, and he should be looking at 4 years to life.

CONI has also used some pretty tough rhetoric in regards to riders from other countries, but, now that it's one of theirs, they're not so tough on the action side of things.

:\

As much fun as I imagined e.basso was with the peloton it was probably a good thing for her to go.

it is rumoured he has offers from geox and farnese vini. 3 anti-doping strikes and he's still back racing. this guy's a cat.

that's the sh!t I can't digest from CONI- what makes Di luca "inmune" to be expelled from the sport once for all?-.now based on the latest investigation & his cooperation, I wonder which team is even going to consider to hire this guy being that kind of liability, not only while racing, but off the road too...

I am looking forward to Liege-Bastogne-Liege already. Vino is the defending champ and The Killer is back! So, when do we get to see Rebellin again?

Welcome back to Drugs Week, ahem, the Ardennes Classics.

to be fair he must have given some quality info to Coni to get that kind of reduction, still think after 3 strikes they should have said so what and given him 4 yrs

The 2007 Giro d'Italia winner and Classics specialist is rumoured to return to racing with Mauro Gianetti's new Geox team, which has already signed such high-profile riders as Denis Menchov and Carlos Sastre.

A proven doper given a reduced suspension is now going to ride for Mauro Gianetti of Saunier Duval fame. This sport is really self destructive.

At least he and Menchov will be able to share equipment.

Are the riders going to protest against this criminal behavior of the controlling agencies? Didn't think so.

I am really starting to believe there is no hope. None.

Agreed, with the caveat that I don't know all the details. But to sum up:

Di Luca + less than full cooperation = reduction in sentance.

Kohl + full cooperation = lifetime ban.

Did Kohl really get a lifetime ban? I saw CN wrote this recently in connection with the Metchner verdict, but I thought he got the usual two years ban, but retired cause 'it is impossible to race clean and win'?

Di Lucas slimy ways is something to behold. That any team would want him with that record of his is beyond me. If he is somehow a source to Petacchis troubles, how can Lampre Farnese Vini still want him? Maybe he hasn't got anything to do with Petacchis case, but still, how can Lampre want him? He ruined his last team, LPR Breaks, many possibly clean team mates lost their jobs. During Tirreno-Adriatico Di Luca told RAI he had a contract with Lampre. This he had to retract quickly, but clearly he'd been talking to Saronni already then.

The peleton should have better things to protest against than Ettori Torris senile ramblings.

i wonder how helping CONI will go down with the rest of the peloton. maybe he should seek advice from filippo simeoni.

I wonder has Di Luca received an email from Hein Verbruggen questioning his sanity and credibility?

No, this is just another example of how the sport fails to clean itself up. I mean this is a repeat offender and he is allowed back, and early? LIFETIME BANS !

It's a joke really. He will now be allowed to make a living in the sport he has cheated. I am sure he is on to another dope method now as he saw EPO is too testable lol

DiLuca is at the end of his career. It is good to cut him a little slack. Great rider He Doped To Get Those Results, wonderful human being So Wonderful, he Cheats and he has done so much for the sport.Yah Probably taught And Helped Others Dope
DiLucas' riding a full season has revived my interest in cycling.
Garzelli ,Basso, Ricco and Scarponi need a little competition.

I had to respond to this one...

i actually think this is an appropriate model for managing 1st offenders. but di luca is not, as we know, a first offender.

if a rider confesses, allocutes, and offers inside information to investigators, he should receive a lesser sentence for a first offense. this is certainly preferable to a landis-type scenario, and less damaging to the sport. but it only works if applied uniformly. you can't have lifetime bans for some riders and suspended sentences for others. it's unjust.

and, since diluca is an unrepentant recidivist, he needs to be tossed for at least 4 years. then you could start taking time off for good behaviour and cooperation, etc.

as it stands now, it's just plain wrong!

Geox. Apparently they have shown real interest in him. Let's wait and see. If Geox doesn't want him, Miche will :p
A powerful alliance between Schumacher, Di Luca, and the Chicken!

Has anyone heard if this will be appealed to CAS? I can't find anything anywhere, but can't believe this can fly.

I'm happy he cooperated, and I guess with that means he confessed, but I have no faith that he will now ride clean. This is either the 2nd or 3rd time he came up positive depending on how you count it, and it seems like he should have been facing a lifetime ban, or at least an 8 year ban.

If I recall correctly the reports, he didnt confess, he just said he reported how the doping would work and what he got offered. No?

Recent rumors from a local pro said that Farnese Vini and Di Luca aren't that close as everybody think.

diluca is a bad doper. he needs a lifetime ban. but others are only as dopers as chess players (contador, others.). to this cyclists, a ban is unfair.

Welcome back to Danilo DiLuca, who made the 2009 Giro D'Italia exiting as hell to watch!!!

The Killer, baby!!! THE KILLER!!!

Iljo Keisse IljoKeisse

WADA, UCI congrats, your antidoping program is working real good. Di Luca is the best prove of that!

IljoKeisse

It makes me sick!

Iljo Keisse IljoKeisse

When you fight against a suspension because you're innocent they treat you like a peace of ****!

Iljo Keisse IljoKeisse

When you don't have to loose anything, because you where doped like Di Luca but you behave you can ride after 13 months. Great system!!

What? CONI gave an Italian a break? You've got to be sh*tting me!
Seems he indeed got a sweetheart deal. Just explained doping practices, didn't name anyone. Nice and easy way to save yourself about 4-5 European average year salaries off your fine, and be able to start racing a season sooner. Maybe it will be harder for Italians to dope within Italy because if Di Luca, but their past crimes are still paying for them.

He seems like the kind of guy who would sell-out Basso's sister in order to get back to racing...

This one could do with a repeat :)

CONI is a seriously corrupt federation. They gave Marta Bastianelli a 1 year suspension, but CAS raised it to 2 years after Bastianelli appealed.

Wait a minute... So the suspension was so ridiculous that the Bastianelli had to appeal to have it raised???

Yes. That is the valv.piti to which I am referring. :D

No, must be the other valv.piti - the one with an "o"... Ehrm, Vino? No-no; Basso? Nope - Ullrich-o? Oh, I give up...

Chuffy said:
Is this the same CONI who bust a lung to nail valv.piti?

Wait a minute - surely not the same CONI that funded Conconi's research into prepping athletes with EPO? Not that CONI, surely...
