I don't think you should cut out all grains. I think you should cut out all the processed crap.

Athletes that follow a diet close to the Paleo..

Steve Nash

"The core of his diet consists of fruits, vegetables, raw nuts, chicken and fish."

Id rather be super fit and reduce my risk of heart disease, colon cancer, obesity and stroke than just 'super fit'. Ive had 3 friends under age 30 that were involved in cycling that died from heart failure in the last few years. Some people on this forum know who I am talking about.

And sorry bud...as I've said before there is no link to non-processed meat and these diseases.

NONE. all of the studies you linked to are PROCESSED MEATS...it's the preservatives that do wrong, not the meat themselves.

http://www.webmd.com/heart-disease/news/20100517/processed-meat-linked-to-heart-disease-risks
-- A new study shows eating processed red meat -- such as hot dogs, bacon, sausage, and cold cuts -- is linked to increased risks of heart disease and diabetes.

But the study, published in Circulation, shows no such link for unprocessed red meat.

oh and that no shirt picture of me holding my bike with my left hand...sure thing friend, here's one from the world naked bike ride, a good time...ride around the city naked in protest of not enough bike lanes, with a police escort.

as you can see, my and my meat eating buddies are terribly out of shape. I wonder thats why according to my Dr. my blood tests are 'the picture of health'

How about a recent shot of your Juan..not a shot of you 'back in the day'.. :)
I worked in the bicycle industry, I can tell old bikes, helmets and sunglasses when I see em..

I put up a 'look no shirt!' youtube vid last night on my channel 'durianriders'. Thats recent.

Everyone agrees that processed foods aint real food.
Everyone knows that animal products contribute to heart disease, cancer, stroke.Heck even the egyptian mummies had heart disease according to JAMA. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2009/11/091117161017.htm

What did egyptian mummies have in common with paleo fad diet eaters today? They ate the most animal products of their peers. Heart disease used to be considered 'royalty disease' cos back in the days, only 'royalty' could afford a diet rich in animal products aka cholesterol and saturated fat.

Enjoy your steak Juan, but dont be fooled into thinking its ok for heart disease, colon cancer, stroke, diabeties and obesity just cos 'its not processed', as its still laden with cholesterol, saturated fat, adrenaline, naturally ocuring hormones and uric acid-all of which eat away our health and fitness over time.

The truth will set us free, but first its gonna **** us off..

Have you actually met a veggie or heaven forsakes a vegan. Showwer of grumpy fecks. Their diet is to blame. Their diet is based on protest not natural choice lwt them moan and groan on thier own wee environment. Basso doesn't need eggs but Dr or should I say chef Purerto make some tasty cocktails for said dude....!!!

Thats right, we could be talking about how to save .5g of a gram off a super record chain vs how to increase your health and fitness via your diet and lifestyle.

How to avoid heart disease and increase your vo2max naturally like a lot of pro's are doing these days?

Or

I wonder if Schleks new carbon outer pulley cage is the reason contador put an extra 11 seconds into him during a 44 minute climb with an average watts per kg of 6.53 or was it 6.43..I dont know, but as long as Ive got enough distraction talk to focus on, I can pretend that Im not in control of my health and fitness. :)

Mr durianrider.

Let me start by saying that I am really engoy what you write, especially how you write the same thing over and over again all over the internets. It is really important that everyone easts and does the same things as you otherwise they would all be doing the wrong thing which would be bad.

Secondly do you have some seminars or sumthing whech I can attend and can i follow you around while you do things cos you are obviously a very impressive person. I looked at your blog, website and twitter and all the forums that you post on but I need more info about you and what you do. I would also like to see your very attactive girlfriend, I've only seen the one blury picture that you post everywhere over and over again. She must be very good looking and you must love her very much, I thought I saw her once riding with you and you made her tow a trailer and carry all the other gear but I must be mistaken because you are obviously a very good person and a great cyclist you won a cat 4 race which is pretty good vegan power!

Love Wonderlance.

Thanks for the compliments WL, I do what i can do.

Ive have never won a Cat 4 race but I did start there in 97.

This is my latest race result, 5 th place in Cat 1. Sorry I dont have anything for this month.

Maybe you could post some race results/photos WL. Sharing is caring.

Lance off racing.

Lance back racing. Jan 2009.

Getting back to the original topic of this thread, here is the book Lance put his name on the back of in the form of a recommendation. Its by a good vegan mate of Lance's, Rip Esselstyn, son of world famous cardiologist and also vegan, Dr Caldwell Esselstyn (author of the book 'heart attack proof!') Has anyone read either? What increases in your performance/health did you note? I can see why many pro cyclists are cleaning up their diet as a performance enhancer as clean blood vessels and the absence of clogged arteries sure does help.

Maarten Tjallingii of Team Silence-Lotto is in the running for the title of the Netherlands'...

Maarten Tjallingii of Team Silence-Lotto is in the running for the title of the Netherlands' "Sexiest Vegetarian," in a poll sponsored by a Dutch animal rights group Wakker Dier, in conjunction with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).

Tjallingii, who turns 31 tomorrow, will ride for Rabobank next season. He is "a prime example that eating meat is not necessary for top athletes," stated Wakker Dier.

PETA holds the contest annually and selects its winners from various countries and continents. Last year's worldwide winners were singers Leona Lewis and Anthony Kiedis of the rock group Red Hot Chili Peppers.

I just had a steak for dinner. It was awesome.

Jamie Oliver quote: Its funny we always say 'I had a steak, it was great!' we never say 'I bit into the *** of a cow like a real carnivore would'..we got some one to kill it, clean it, cook it and serve it with cutlery, Sir Paul McCartney was right when he said 'if slaughterhouse walls were made of glass most of us would be vegetarians..A chef who has cooked 2,000 sheep should kill at least one, otherwise you're a fake....People who go into supermarkets don't believe that this happens. It's not something where you press a button and you get a lamb"

The connection between red meat and colon cancer, for those that didnt know. My Dad died last year, nobody told him.

Just a quick question - what have the last 2 posts for example got to do with diet trends in the professional peloton? There is already a topic on nutrition is there not?

My quote was from Cavendish himself in his book. Not some vague newspaper article.

My quote was from Levi himself. Read the link I provided. http://blog.peta.org/archives/2007/07/a_word_with_lev_1.php

Thats funny, you want me banned? Why? Cos Im telling the truth?

The Levi article (from Peta no less), says he enjoys eating vegetarian foods, not that he's a vegetarian. I like veggies and fruits too, but I'm not a vegetarian. See the difference?

So what's really behind your vegetarianism? Think eating animals is wrong? Do tell.

Finally, WTF is this doing in the professional road racing forum?

Complete bull****. People had no trouble eating meat when they killed it themselves. It's simply convenient not to.

I catch fish. I kill them, cut the flesh from their bodies and eat them. I have no trouble doing it.

I've killed, cleaned and eaten small game (rabbits, squirrels). I have no trouble doing it.

If you choose to be vegan, good for you. But it doesn't make you morally better than someone who eats meat.

I don't know. I thought I would strike first before preacher boy starts posting pictures of slaughterhouses and chickens with their heads cut off while reciting the ten commandments of the fruitboy lifestyle

Martin this entire thread has nothing to do with professional road racing. This is a chance for fruit boy to grab attention and highlight his blogs. I'm very happy that durian is so pleased with his lifestyle and diet choices. I'm also happy that he rides in Div 1 races and drafts behind professionals on training rides. I'm less happy that I'm having it slapped in my face on several repetitive threads. Spam with silly photos. Ok, I get it. He's vegan. Now can we please talk about something else. And if the vegan diet is nature's choice, why don't mothers have soy milk in their breasts?

My apologies BroDeal, your post snuck in before mine and is therefore collateral damage. (well actually, looking back I think I should have written a 3 not a 2)
