I'd say any good size summer crit here in Aus is going to be ridiculously tough!

Balmoral in Brisbane gets excellent fields in the summer too - Jay McCarthy is/was a member and Hepburn, Cantwell, Jordan Kerby race there a bit along with a few guys from Drapac like Mal Rudolph and Peter Thompson and also Budget Forklifts is based locally. It often takes an NRS rider to win there in January and that's just a Saturday morning club race.

Then there's the NSW GP Series. The big money crit coming up at SKCC looks awesome too.

surely those top pro's are holding a little back though in the of season can't go 12 months a yr.

It depends if they are preparing for Nats/TDU, if so they race a little more. But yes, usually they sit on wheels until about 2 or 3 laps to go. Then they let rip :eek:

Or they work all race then don't worry about the finish

Thanks for the replies, especially the person who registered for one post, saying that plenty of National Road Series guys would smash Cantwell, et al, at the moment, but immediately deleted his post :D

Name names, dude :p

Anyway, this week, Simon Clarke and Mowatt apparently lapped the A-grade field.

So, I guess this means that the racing isn't that hard, because they obviously weren't chasing hard enough to catch 2 guys, pro or not

Crit racers finish a Grand Tour at least 3 hours behind the leader and are at least an hour behind the leader after the first week, even if it is flat.
No mater how hard a crit. race, the leader is the king of slipstream for the race.

Compared to Wiggins,Cavendish,Tony Martin and Cancellara they are all crap.

Well Derrrr - that's why when the WT pros turn up at crits they obliterate everyone!

As said above, Simon Clarke lapped the A grade field at Carnegie Caulfield, while two weeks ago Michael Hepburn (Orica) and Jay McCarthy (Saxo) almost did the same thing at Balmoral, even though there was some Conti/Pro Conti guys there too.

Hardly any domestic riders are going to keep up with guys who race 1-2 GTs and 3-5 week long tours each year. With their level of base they should be obliterating everyone.

If it is true I'd love to see this race. Even the likes of Gerrans and Weening will give it a real crack for $15k even though they'd be on a good amount of coin.

Zabel would have zero chance today imo. Too specialized now.

Technique and speed is key. McW 2.0 maybe.
