i think this will get cliniqued fairly quickly

my opinion
there are those who have cheated and denied it
there are those who have cheated, admitted it and apologised
and there are those who have cheated and are completely smug about it

ricco is in the last catagory..

I totally agree. Why should we believe he's clean now?

The only interesting thing about Ricco was the spin class.

The rest of his story is the usual non-repentant rider coming back from a two year suspension. He's excited about getting attention again and making people forget he's a sleaze-ball. Just like Vino. But the part about him having to lower himself to teach spin classes to Italian housewives at a local gym was priceless.

Can't blame the guy if he continues to dope. Its not his fault at all.
Don't blame the riders, blame the system. Yes, Lance is the system.

Ricco's "Cobra Stare" is dangerous by the way - I watch his reflection in a mirror when he is on the Telly. Can't look at him directly. Boo.

Sorry, I know you have a point. I just can not for the life of me figure out what it might be.

Once you get caught doping it's confirmed that you're a cheat, I suppose it doesn't really matter what a rider says or how he behaves after that.

If he gets caught again he's out, that's how the game works.

We might as well enjoy his riding style until then.

Can't wait for the Cobra to strike again. I missed him. It is that type of personality which give sports flare.

Lastly, he does get it. In no way should he apologize for making cycling interesting regardless of the method he employed. In fact, I loose so much respect for those that confess ie Millar, Zabel etc.

A true cynic for you.

I have to say, from the perspective of an American living in Italy, that he does "get it" in an Italian way. Italy is a Catholic nation, which means the culture places less emphasis on punishment for a sin, than it does on the possiblity of obtaining divine redemption. Something which is in direct contrast to the anglo-american protestant societies, which, as everybody knows, are of the puritanical ethos: that thus emphasize punishment and tend to be more moralistic in their judgments of personal behavior and consequently are less likely to just "forgive and forget". The most concrete example of what I just said is the Tiger "scandal" in America, which in Italy makes no sense. On the one hand because Italians generally aren't moralistic and, secondly, because they know that it's better not to condem too fiercly the private sins of one's neighbor, so as not to be too severly condemned for one's own.

Riccò is speaking to his Italian countrymen. What the puritans out there among the other nations have to say about him he couldnt care less about, also because they have no bearing on his culturaly informed (as an Italian) world view. And in any case what does he have to feel sorry about? For getting caught? When someone like LA pays $ 200,000 to the UCI anti-doping program, the same governing body that will be testing Mr. Armstrong (how could they then possibly find him positive after receiving such a generous sum?) When Valverde is still racing with impunity by his Spanish nation and Basso got a two year ban for the same offence? When 90% of the peleton is doped to their gills in the big races. And when he knows how the game will still be played a certain way, even upon his return. Their is nothing worse than hypocritical fake remorse.

that guys a little arrogant punk i hope he wins nothing again doping convictions asside.

I think I read it in CN, an interview that his experience with the police hancuffing him and having spend a night in jail is enough for him to keep him away from doping practices in the future and I can't disagree.

So, having hope that someone else will dope himself, I just don't get it. What does this offer me as a cycling fan?
Hoping that he won't win again, I understand it, everybody has it's sympathies and vice-versa, but be mean, hoping that the other will be destroyed, is at least childish (to use a mild expression)

Personally, I don't care if he wins or not. And if he'll dope again, I wish they'll catch him. But I won't stay in the corner waiting this to happen in expense of the cycling itself.
