Domestique stand-outs?

For me it has to be sylvester smyzd an excellent domestique for basso in his 2010 giro win. Even in this years tour he stood out and i would go as far as to say contador and riis could do a lot worse then to go for him after the poor performance of the likes of navarro.

Superdomestique who rode for the same team 17 years.

When he started out it was Bannesto and Miguel Indurain he was working for.

As it changed to Caisse Depagne and then Movistar, he continued working for the leaders of the team.

Over the years he won a stage in the Tour and two in the Vuelta, Did the Vuelta 15 times finishing a joint record 14 times, only failing this year due to a crash.

Even last year at the age of 38 he was finishing up there in mountain stages with LLS and Uran in the Vuelta.

Retired 2 weeks ago.

The ultimate domestique. Never noticed but always there.

Is he Vicente Aparicio? I don't see him in any of the 1994, 1995 or 1996 Tours. I read the team rosters from Mémoire du Cyclisme.

This year I got to say Jelle Vanendert. Was the best domestique this year by a longshot and even got some personal succes.

Watch the 2009 Vuelta again. Every single day for the last two weeks, there's Txente, on the front, for best part of 100km. On the day Lars Boom won, Txente was on the front of the péloton literally from when the break went until about 5km from the stripe.

Also notable for getting in the break of the day at either de Ronde or Roubaix pretty much every year without fail.

Umm no. Niemiec was a far better domestique. Jelle had better personal success no doubt, but as a dom he was not in the same league.
