After serving a four-year doping ban and missing Olympic trials for the Paris Games, Chinese swimmer Sun Yang has said he hopes to return to competition soon and "bravely" stand on the starting blocks.
Sun's ban finished on Monday, paving the way for a return to the pool for the 32-year-old triple Olympic champion and 1,500 metres freestyle world record holder.
Sun was initially suspended for eight years in 2020 for a dope test violation in 2018 in which he and members of his entourage smashed vials containing blood samples. The ban was reduced to four years and three months on appeal.
"Four years ago I’ve made this decision already - that I wanted to carry on," Sun said.
The 11-times world champion said he had told his team and his mum that they must support him, despite them worrying about his mental health as he trained alone.
...
Though Sun is clear to resume competition, he may have little chance of swimming for China again. Chinese athletes who receive doping suspensions longer than a year are banned from national teams, according to the country's anti-doping rules.
It was also his second doping ban, after he served a three-month suspension in 2014 for taking trimetazidine, a prohibited substance which he said he took to treat a heart condition.
From the article:Olympic champion in pole vaulting from 2016 got suspended until next year. He also got bronze in Tokyo. LINK
Nfl is funny i think 99% are on steroids, i remember when lebron join miami and in offseason he add something like 10-15 pounds in muscles. Hillarious stuffAs bad as cycling can be when it comes to doping, seeing how other sports deal with it can be very eye-opening. And we're not even talking about major league pro sports in North America like football, baseball, hockey ...
For me it was Vlatko Čančar. He went from a skinny white boy to this LINK in a space of a month.Nfl is funny i think 99% are on steroids, i remember when lebron join miami and in offseason he add something like 10-15 pounds in muscles. Hillarious stuff
More like 110% for the NFL: All the players and some of the coaches and trainers as well.Nfl is funny i think 99% are on steroids, i remember when lebron join miami and in offseason he add something like 10-15 pounds in muscles. Hillarious stuff

But he was sooo 😎Baseballer & Simpsons actor Darryl Strawberry is in the news again - his number for the Mets is being retired. He was banned twice in the 90's for doing cocaine. ( a few months & a year respectfully)
I remember being a youngster back then and hearing an announcer say something to the effect of:But he was sooo 😎

Likely does merit discussion, though with it being an Olympic season and many of these athletes unlikely to win any Olympic medals, a fair few (i.e. not the likes of Tamberi or Jacobs) are just peaking here because they can win something on home soil while a lot of the best athletes are either not competing or are not in form because they're targeting Paris. At the same time, they've unearthed a huge number of athletes in a very short period of time who are overperforming massively and yes, there are good reasons to be wary of it.No talk about the crazy surge of Italy in track and field?
Tbf, many other nations peak for the Olympics instead of the EC in Italy, but they have been crazy since the last Olympics. No talk about the crazy surge of Italy in track and field?
i think a hilarious possible outcome of the Enhanced completions is that their times might not be much better than current pros in T&F and whatever other events, thus revealing the level of doping going on in the “clean” sports.I wonder when Enhanced Games will sue the Olympics for copyright infringement
In the past there were claims on their website without any proof that someone had beaten Bolt's 100m world record. But by now that post has completely disappearedP

Honestly, there’s few disciplines I can think of that I’d expect to see any changes at all, other than maybe some weird stuff like 50 year olds putting up huge weightlifting numbers, and maybe some of the women’s events. At first the whole thing seemed silly but with how they’re trying to frame it as some equality thing now you have to wonder if it’ll actually catch on once people see there’s no difference in performance.P

What's shady about promoting transhumanism? In the past there were claims on their website without any proof that someone had beaten Bolt's 100m world record. But by now that post has completely disappeared
Tbh, I still think this Enhanced Games is some kind of psyop. Where super shady oligarchs like Peter Thiel appear, nothing good comes of it and that business is certainly not what it claims to be.
I would say that all oligarchs are shady, it has nothing to do with their social interests. I added the word 'super' because the old Paypal team gave us a lot of weird oligarchs like Thiel, Musk....What's shady about promoting transhumanism?
