Doping in other sports?

Really? He's paid like a day labourer: if you show up and there is work for you, you get paid for that day?

I would have expected all sports team players to be on a salaried contract, and so in case of a doping incident they are either sacked or the club has to accept that they are paying someone who is not useful to them for a time. Or maybe a clause that has a lower pay rate during times of suspension.

I wouldn't have imagined that professional baseball operates according to the rules of the gig economy.
It's funny that you wrote this in sarcastic slant, sort of an assumption that pro players have everything dialed in.. But the answer to your question, yes they are paid...and taxed like day labor..

here in US sports, athletes are paid per day not per game. Suspensions are only in effect on game days (except if you are a repeat offender in the NHL, then you are suspended both for game days and non game days.

It's how AROD was paid several million the season he was suspended
Well colour me surprised. Today I learned etc etc (no idea what an arod is, but I probably wouldn't be very interested in the answer either)

We in Seattle had the initial version: A**Rod. It covered so much more ground for the most selfish player that ever pretended to be a nice person.
I looked for it but couldn't find the photo of A-Rod sitting on a rock shirtless in Central Park, with either Maddona or Jennifer Lopez standing or sitting near smiling. Would have been just another stock paparazzi shot had Rodriguez stunk Yankee Stadium up that night with errors and going hitless, newspapers and sports radio would calculate how many dollars were spent on him per game for nothing.. He was decent at play by play after his retirement and it looks like he is more savvy at business than PED use.

he was the biggest catch in the Biogenesis steroid scandal. Got suspended for an entire season
Actually that would be San Francisco's Barry Bonds and Olympic sprinter Marion Jones. Jones had to give back 5 medals won in Sydney and spend the rest of her life in shame. Bonds still had a legion of fans that rationalized "he just did what everyone did".....a now familiar justification to idiot followers. He didn't suffer any sleepless nights or financial hardships from appearances. AssRod was way down the list except maybe to disgruntled Yankee fans that watched him challenge Derek Jeter for their hearts. He tried that charm angle against Ken Griffey, arguably the greatest Seattle player and a real, clean phenom. Alex sleazed out of town when fans grew tired of his self-serving behavior. A pure d*ck that was hyped in high school; Rodriguez demanded much.

wasn't Bonds caught in the Balco scandal?

Multiple baseball steroid scandals

Yes, Balco nabbed Bonds, and revealed network of previously undiscovered doping (famous for "The Clear" that was supposed to be undetectable).
Biogenesis was not as big a scandal but did indeed nail Rodriquez
Ya'll are correct. As*rod's name came up during Balco among disgruntled Mariner fans but not even Bonds was nailed. He got nicked for some lesser crime after he "retired" and never admitted any issues. I totally missed how late Rodriguez was caught.
