Anyway, I think doping is big in football, and the omerta in football might be a couple of times stronger than in cycling.

Example: Bayern Munich would never file charges against Barca, even if they had reasonable clues that Barca is doping, simply cuz Bayern is doping just as hard.

Also, soccer's a teamsport, more than cycling is, and the resulting consensus seems to be that cheating individuals in football is less shocking than cheating individual riders.

I think that uncovering doping in football will really be about uncovering deep institutionalized structures within a club, rather than increasing the number and intensity of doping tests.

C'mon guys, don't tarnish Spain's Golden Era.

Dave.

Brilliant!

I wonder if they still use dog names?

I give it 2 months. Case held up in the courts and Fuentes back in business.

It reminds me a lot of Puerto. In beginning reports were fairly low-key but then the info started to leak and it all went Pete Tong. Expecting the same.

If anyone finds a piece of paper with the initials A.C. written on it in Dr. Fuentes' office, this is definitive proof that Alberto Contador was doping.

I always work on the basis that if someone doesnt respond to your points but responds to other peoples its cos youre right and they have no response :D

This is an important issue. I notice that with some people (not on this thread) when they make a stupid post containing about 10 errors, and you individually correct every single error, they then pick on one teeny weeny minute detail in your post, writing an essay on it, and ignore every correction you made.

Does that mean they aknowledge that you were right on everything else?

Fuentes and 5 others were apparently charged today

It was also reported that the Ethopian-born athlete Alemayehu Bezabeh was caught receiving a blood transfusion during the raids. He was trained by Manuel Pascua. Spanish police apparently also have video images of athletes participating in doping practices.

Bad luck for that guy to have the police burst in while you're in the middle of your transfusion?!?

Also - court is in session on Sundays in Spain?

Amateur hour. The Hog & Duffy had all the peep holes taped up.

What's with Spain? Can't go get a transfusion without being spied on. The broken down bus in hindsight was utter genius.

Apparently they've recovered a mountain of documentation so here we go again....... Wait for McQuaid when cyclist names start leaking out. One minute Spain needs to do more about their doping problem the next "no sport is doing more than cycling". Do you think he can last Armstrong going down then 183 cyclists being named in Greyhound?

Here's to hoping they name and implicate all the athletes this time, instead of cherry-picking a few individuals while everyone else skates to dope another day.

If theres no tennis players or footballers, they dont need to cherry pick.

Fuentes is now spreading his message among the common delinquents he's met during his arrest. And he's talked about football to them:

He's not going to talk, unless he feels there's no hope left. Presumably it's a (not so subtle) reminder to the powers that be.

Inverno on the horizon

Eufemiano Fuentes does not speak to reporters, but he does so with the inmates. And the big shot. So large that Marca Mundo and collect the testimonies of common criminals in contact with the doctor in the Canary Islands and shoot the front page.

They could be making it up, of course, but it's consistent with Fuentes' modus operandi and with previous things he and his wife have said.

(redundant remark removed)

In other news, Dutch newspaper VK on Saturday came out with information leaked to them by a intimate friend of Adrienne Herzog, now devoted to training under Piqueras. Apparently emails were expchanged, where among amicable chitchat, injection of E*O which make her gravely sick were mentioned.
It was never published as the emails could of course have been fabricated in a vindictive move by the male friend. In context of current investigations however, they were.

On a Dutch running forum, I am getting heat for posing on the case on this forum here. I am a hater, bypassing lawful procedures. However, I've implicated no-one, just expressed my disappointment in Herzog's decisions, which leave a bad taste in the mouth of compatriot anti-doping sports fans. A smart athlete should know better, and if guilty at least conseal it better.

You guys are the best, wish I could keep up with the reading here. You should start a newsticker!

I'm pressed for time.

Was it already mentioned that according to UK newspapers, Bezabeh (who confessed to doping) was in fact caught red-handed during blood doping?

According to the links below, Bezabeh told the story of a blood transfusion to the President of the Federation as if it was part of his normal training. From other articles I've read it looks like he didn't even know it was a forbidden practise. He just seemed to do what his coach asked him to do and he couldn't undestand why he couldn't defend his continental title last weekend.

Thanks a lot for that. Great title of the article.

Well, Xavi says there's no doping in football, so that's settled then. Whew I was worried for a second.

What's new about it? We have been force fed this talking point since 1999 at least.
