This along with the other recent Clenbuterol positives makes me suspect that Clenbuterol is currently being widely used in the peloton. This is one of the reasons I have a hard time believing Contador. I still feel he settled on the contaminated meat defense because other athletes have recently had their bans reduced or overturned and Contador felt this was his best chance to avoid being sanctioned.

Go into any gym and you can buy Clen.

I think that most Australian cycling fans know that Australia is obviously not squeaky clean so I resent the fact that you say that we all think our riders are squeaky clean.

Though I do think that Spain has the biggest problem with doping though tit looks like a bigger problem than it is because Spain has a higher percentage of riders in the peleton compared to most if not all other countries.

Spain has been incredibly successful over a wide range of sports in recent years. Why is this ? Great sporting academies, great at nurturing young talent, new training methods and talented coaches, sport given priority in schools or just a lot of gifted athletes hitting their peak in the same era ? Or are there other reasons ? I don't believe it's just numbers. Italy does not seem to be much better.

For all of the talk about other countries, if doping is so entrenched in countries like Australia and England why aren't they getting caught with our wonderful, improved anti-doping system ? New drugs being used ? Or people resenting the fact that some countries are currently, worse than others for doping ? Or riders from other countries beating the system by doing or using something that the Spansh aren't ? The fact that many high profile Spanish people were saying Contador was innocent even before the evidence was presented, says it all. A suspension would have really hurt an already wounded sport in Spain not to mention it's image elsewhere.

Kinda surprised to be honest, Tondo was riding so good last year that I kinda suspected that he was on the juice, but now I think I might have been wrong. Huge respect to him for doing something!

Spain's recent athletic success has more to do with this being the first post-Franco generation than doping. It's a well off country with a sense of not having realized its potential for many years. That influences these things. Perhaps also its media plays things up - after all the only things that have been won, outside of cycling, are a World Cup and a bunch of tennis tournaments, by a single individual. The doping is endemic in all professional sports in all countries. It appears more pronounced in cycling in Spain because there are lots of professional cyclists who are Spanish. There are comparatively few cyclists from England and Australia.

That folks don't get caught just reflects either a. better doping regimens or b. more complicity from the relevant authorities. There is no doping/drugs scandal in the US related to the NFL or the NBA because the folks running those sports don't care, not because they are cleaner (just look at the players to see how clean they are).

The Spanish sporting authorities suffer from being dominated by folks from an older generation, that still does things in a old way. These people are clowns, and the only way they know to run things is as a circus.

It's less surprising that Tondó would be the one to step up considering that he has seen a teammate die on the road from the effects of doping. I do think that considering Xavi is the only Spanish male pro on the BikePure roster, they could have done their research better.

Just want to say fair play to Tondo. He did the right thing, will he be ostracised from the peloton now??!!! He will be fine im sure.
I like Xavier Tondo even more now. Wow have we finally got someone we can really root for?!!!!!!

Well, he rode for LA-MSS in 2008. Have you been rooting for Damiano Cunego for the last few years? If so, then Tondó's probably a guy you can root for. If you demand a Moncoutié level of pure whiteness, then probably not.

I like Tondó, he's one of my favourite riders. He maintains he knew nothing of what was going on in Portugal, but I'd be surprised if there wasn't some level of wilful ignorance (like Jörg Jaksche talked about).

So you assume hes innocent because he forwarded the email. Could just be he has his own supplier. ;)

But, that said, my instinct would be that its a very good sign as for as Tondo goes. Can go onto my list of riders to root for.

I'm not sure if this has already been stated above...but check out the video and watch how sad it is to see a nice arrangement of fruit in a bowl right next to a bag full of partially used dope.

Then at around the 2:05 min mark the camera make a point of videoing a wall mounted poster of you know who in his Shack jersey. Sad.

Just as well Valverde's not riding. He would give Tondo a kick in the head next time they race together.

So i take it at the end of this season Moviestar will let Tondo go for unknown reasons to the general public (or something cheesy....like 'he didn't perform up to standard') and that will be that on Tondo's career, maybe back to Andulucia Carasjur if he is lucky (are they even still around?)

:eek::confused:

Amazing timing. Just as the critical eyes of the cycling world were focusing on Spain, bam!, here comes a major doping bust.
One thing people aren't taking into account is that this operation was done by the autonomous Catalan police, which depends on the autonomous Catalan government, led by a moderate nationalist party which, despite having cooperated with the Catalan Socialist Party (the branch of the Socialists in Catalonia, the government of Spain being socialist), is still a completely different party.

Huh whats the catch. Others are saying its a major bust and you ask what the purpose of the thread is

Im guessing it was called something else earlier?

No, it was called the same, but did not include any link to the news story, it was the same opening post but without the link, so I had absolutely no idea what the thread was about

I have more trust on Tondo than on virtually any other Spanish rider right now, and not only because of this news.

Here's a police video of the EPO, clenbuterol, ephedrine, urbason, testoviron depot and RadioShack Lance Armstrong poster found.

Nice garage there. :D

I doubt it looked more properly before the police-raid.
