Stokes is supporting my general idea the CIRC report's purpose was to shame Verbruggen out of the UCI for good. We still don't know what Verbruggen's daily involvement is at this point. He can't be fired or retired, so... Another UCI mystery.

The report strikes out at a couple of others, but they are gone at this point.

To be honest was it ever going to be anything more than / different than that?

So many people didn't talk - we don't know why (as in they weren't invited or were but declined) - that it could only ever really have a go at Hein & Pat.

If we really want the inside track we need the kind of statements / affidavits (that USADA got) from so many people. I'd like to hear the stories about artificial plasma / blood / etc., also 'legal' methods (Xenon gas or similar type stuff). The problem is anyone who is still active is not going to cough, and anyone who was recently active won't cough either for fear of being in court. To get to the truth anonymity & immunity is needed.

2010, Zorzoli and McQuaid defending Basso as a clean Giro winner:
"Whether it has to do with targeting blood values or not, the tests are negative," explained International Cycling Union (UCI) doctor Mario Zorzoli. (...) UCI president, Pat McQuaid, confirmed Basso's clean performance during the Giro d'Italia. "I am pleased to see the battle between Ivan Basso and Cadel Evans," said McQuaid. "They are superb riders, 100 per cent clean and give a good image to the sport."

Basso's cycling diary, December 2008:
"You’ll be interested to read that we had a UCI representative, Mario Zorzoli, who came and talked about the biological passports and whereabouts programme"

Francisco Fernández, lawyer and part owner of Caisse d'Epargne, explains in 2010:
"the first thing we do when we're interested in a rider is call Mario Zorzoli, chief of UCI antidoping department, who will then give a green light according to the hematological data he has in in front of him."

Zorzoli sits on Froome's passport data alright.

Oh well
sorry Dr.ugs, seems i was was wrong you were right. He does seem to be Italian. Just with a long record of studying/living/working in Geneve/Lausanne/Aigle.
Majority of sources present him as Italian, though there are some references where he's presented as Swiss, e.g. here in Die Zeit:
"Diese sei ihm vom Schweizer UCI-Arzt Mario Zorzoli erteilt worden"

AHA! So he took Pantani's side with the release of the 99 Armstrong- positive. ;)
It could very well be like that, crazier things have happened.

Perhaps a deal was done? The good Dr. can walk away with his reputation (?) intact, providing he walks quickly. He'll probably turn up working for an ADA somewhere.

I'm sure someone like Astana can pay way more than some ADA...

That was long overdue. How the heck he survived this long we'll probably never know.

It remains to be seen if it is actually an improvement.

What investigation has Z refused to cooperate with?

Also, who the *** is "Glen Cottingley"?

And what more do you want out of Z publicly than was in his 2016 CN interview?

It's Glen. Come on you should know Glen. Glen should also know that he didn't just sign TUEs for Sky too.

'Glen' signed TUEs?

And answer the question about the investigation 'Glen' knows Z has refused to cooperate with. Was it the one in 'Glen's' wild imagination?

Maybe he doesn't either. Yet still you choose to repeat his nonsense. Why?

I was more interested in the signed off by a committee thing. If this is true,i.e it's not then this doesn't shine very well on the UCI.

You're no newbie, don't pretend you are. You know this came out several years ago following LJdD's story...

It was legit at the time under WADA/UCI rules for Wiggo's TUEs to be signed off by just one UCI doctor (i.e. Zorzoli)

WADA/UCI rules were subsequently changed so that a panel of three doctors has to sign off on TUEs

After that the Dawg's Tour de Romandie TUE was signed off by just Zorzoli in breach of the WADA/UCI three doctors rule

Yeah, it was legit for Wiggo, but Sky somehow avoid to say it was Zorzoli all the way, obviously because Leinders connection. It sounds much better when they say it was a commission that signed those TUE's :D

Indeed. Zorzoli was corrupt. And we know about the Zorzoli/Leinders link at Rabobank from Rasmussen's testimony which contributed to Leinders' life ban. Whole thing stinks!
