Threat level 4 maintains till tomorrow morning. Then there will be a new evaluation. Don't think they'll race if the threat level doesn't change.

Whether it goes ahead or not will depend on advice from the cops and on whether or not the cops can still provide people to close roads etc. It's really as simple as that. If the cops say go, it will be run, if they say no, it won't.

So last year, the Rund um Frankfurt was actually cancelled due to a terrorist threat. This was rather different in circumstances, admittedly, but there is a precedent there. The reason for the cancellation was that police had raided the home of an individual known to have connections to terrorist organizations and who had been spotted scouting parts of the race route; the police couldn't guarantee the safety of the fans and participants and so the race was cancelled.

Here there's no known threat at time of writing that is directly to the race's fans and participants and the race doesn't pass close to Brussels and so they may feel that it's in order to continue with the race. With Frankfurt, although the same size race (.HC), it's the largest one-day race in Germany (even if Hamburg is WT) and it starts and finishes in a large city so policing the fans is more of a challenge, while Dwars doesn't; while a sporting event (especially an open road one like a cycling event) is a potential terrorist target, they may feel that Dwars is not as attractive a target as E3 or de Ronde and certainly given the current situation in Belgium it's quite likely that the number of people willing to travel to spectate will be limited too.

If they cancel it = the terrorist win. FCK the terrorist and let's keep our everyday routines unchanged. The race and life must go on!

While I want to agree with this, it might not be practical. I'm not very read up, so I'm not sure if there is still a threat, but...if there is a very real threat, than safety comes first. This isn't everyday life. It's a sport. A perfect place for idiots to reek havoc.

There is very unlikely to be a significant threat to a minor pro bike race largely taking place out in backwoods rural Flanders. There may well be a shortage of cops available to protect the race from motorists etc because the cops are likely quite busy.

Yeah - I actually agree with both of your comments.

I'd love the racing to continue and not allow the terrorist actions to get in the way or dictate proceedings......however, riders / spectators safety needs to be paramount....if real threats are still a concern -cancel the race and focus on more pertinent issues.

So, the race is going on but with no podium ceremony.

For safety reasons or out of respect for the victims?

Greag Van Avermaet is the favourite, he's is in good shape. Terpstra is a big question mark, so far he didn't get any good results this season.

Oscar Gatto seems to be in a very good form. He has Jay McCarthy, so could be fun. Kolar and Sagan jnr. Can form an early grupetto though.

True, but Niki Terpstra doesn't seem to have a tough opposition on that race

You know that Juraj Sagan is the older one here, right?

Well, actually, this is hist first season where he seems to get at least some results. Nevertheless, it will be very difficult to finish this race for all the Slovak riders. Kolar had some nice showing in the break in Roubaix two years ago, but that's about it as far as the cobbles are concerned. Everything will depend on the style of riding, that the riders will show. There's to few top guys here, so some of them might actually finish.
