With Thomas getting a free ride in the second group there was no reason for Stannard to spend so much time on the front. You have to wonder what sort of attack he is capable of if he develops a better tactical brain. It made sense for him to chase down Voeckler though, would people think Sky's tactics were better if he just hadn't bothered? Hayman got a podium out of it after all.
Agree with this^^

Yeah bad boys Sky, as if they had any chance of catching Voeckler and overtaking him... oh wait!

Stannard did nothing wrong. What was he supposed to do, sit back and let Voeckler win? No he tried to get him back to give Hayman a chance for the win albeit a small one.

THe only thing Sky did wrong was to let Tommy go in he 1st place. Hayman should have been ready for the counter once Stannard was brought back.

It is clear that Sky has no idea about racing apart from forming a train and pulling people

Makes it a lot easier for other teams, "Boss, which Sky rider should we sit on till the last 300 metres today?"

Keukeleire was big disappointment, but maybe MSR was too tough and couldn't recover. Can't imagine that he would get better chance to win classic. I was almost sure that he will be in top3 if it's decided in sprint. Not even close. :(

Really pleased, that Tommy didn't won. :):D

Cheers Bernie. A much cleverer and lucid analysis than mine, which consisted of shouting not a-bloody-gain

Damn this was just such a wonderful an entertaining koers today. Then my man Voeckler is on his way to take the win. I already was ready in my cheering pose and not just a little bit like on Sunday when Ciolek won. But in full enthusiastim. And then Thommy is losing it in the last 3 seconds.

But hell this is bike racing isn't it? That's why we love it all. Although or even because it's sometimes so unfruitful.

Good news for Jack Bauer. He was quickly released from hospital and while he was knocked out briefly, has full recollection around the crash

Agree, some excellent racing today. Very entertaining.

Less control FTW.

Great finish by Gatto! Judged it perfectly. Voeckler:p

I would prefer if Gatto would do some work in the last kms, anyway, smart riding by him.

I have impression that Voeckler was duped by his breakaway companions. He was making his trademark faces and gestures after the last climb, wanting to provoke some reaction in the group.
When he made his move, the group first held him on a short leash for a while, and then gave him some more space. He isn't the most popular colleague, that's sure.
Nevertheless, Voeckler would have succeeded if Stannard didn't decide to take that massive turn at the front.

Exactly, if it wasn't for Stannard Voeckler would even have had some time to wave back to the chasers, and think of a nice victory salute.
