I never declared that he's going to get a result at Flanders this year, just agreed to the notion that he might be conserving energy because he knew that Boonen had to work hard today. On paper Haussler is more suited for Gent, or a really lucky Roubaix, that's for sure. But the Northern classics are more of a crap shoot than any other racing throughout the year. The second you start counting people out, that's how so many favorites loose races. Especially when it's a 25 year old that is one of the more attacking style riders out there.

Next weekend is going to be crazy fun!!!

seems there is a fair bit of ingorance on Haussler.

He was a good tter as a jnr, he said previously that he did not know how he would develop, and may ride GC, and he has been injured and sick for the last 3 years in the spring.

In '05 as a 21 yo, he was about 30th, might have been 33 or even 25th, in Roubaix. He was a classified finisher, about 8 mins back, in the big second group that always comes in.

Then he won a stage in the Vuelta, and finished 7th in Zurich. Folks should erally go have a look at those parcours. Think around 250 km, can be selective.

The guy can go uphill. He is not Cavendish.

He is obviously on the program that the other big hitters are on, but there is manifest ability. Atm, he is riding QS off his wheel, and outpsrinting everyone but Boonen. He is even leading himself out, in the sprint, and popping his nose in the wind, multiple times, in the last 5km.

He turned off in Paris Nice. This gives me the impression, that he turned off early in RVV. He really did not want to go 1 versus 4 against QS, and will save himself, going into the red, for Roubaix and RVV.

Boonen told Belgian TV that he had a problem with his rear derailleur ... when he wanted to prep the sprint his chain moved directly to 11 instead of the 13 he wanted ... too bad, but we saw a Boonen who is almost ready ( 99%, he'll get that exta 1% during the week :) )

great job from Pippo, but what about that Iglinsky ... on a terrain that hasn't been his for quite a while (evolving more to a climber) ... he punched out a great sprint in the end

we're going to have a great Ronde

Have you compared the length of those races vs. Flanders? Do that and get back to me, 'k?

Yeah and i didn't say he is gonna win next week. ;)
You said there is a big difference between MSR the Belgian classics in general. And Haussler proved he can do something in the Belgian classics. Flanders is something different, i agree with you, he still gotta prove it there.

Based on how he's going this spring, I don't know that it justified deeming my input as "a fair bit of ignorance". Right or wrong, were are all just predicting here. And I'd like to think that if we had this same conversation at the pub, that we could actually have a cordial discussion without the use of belittling comments like "ignorance".

Nice to meet you.

...and almost as many as Hincapie :D ("I was having problems with my bike," said Hincapie to Cyclingnews. "On all the cobblestones it was just skipping so I could never really go with the attacks and I had to keep coming back...")

I would never have picked Pippo as a guy who could outfox Boonen in a finale, but damn--that was a great finish!

I'm glad Pippo got another high profile win, and this type of win seems especially important for him. It doesn't have the prestige of his Milan san Remo win, but I think it shows that he is ready to be a top contender for a Flanders or roubaix win.
