When I saw this thread I could only think of David Millar :D

2010 - Tour of Flanders: He did a very good race. Post race: "I think I found now my nature, I'm a classics rider".

After Roubaix: "Well maybe the classics are not my kind of thing"

Before Criterium du Dauphine (or whatever it's called these days): "Well if I can keep the climbers in 2min range I have the long TT to win the race overall". First MTF, a very difficult one won by Vogondy, 1min down. Alpe d' Huez, 25min.

So my point is: I wouldn't be too surprised to hear him saying he'll go for it:)

My vote: Talansky

Really depends if Dan's TT at the Vuelta was representative of his actual ability at the discipline or if he was just having a particularly bad day. Anyone have any of his other TT results?

Le Mevel already was in the top 10, he was 10th in 2009.. :p

But anyway, for real, only chance from this selection has Dan Martin and maybe Le Mevel as well. But the rider I believe the most is Michel Kreder for sure! :D

Hasn't Le Mevel already been in the top 10 once??? I went for Dan Martin. Zabriskie would be my second vote.

Lol at the Klier option.

one of Hesjedal, CvV and Danielson could get in the top 10

What no other/Vino option? As part of the Celtic mafia ;), I had to vote for Danny Boy. However, I think he'll ride the Giro. He might scrape into the top 10 there, since there is only a relatively short TT right at the end.

Re: question about his TT abilities. His Vuelta performance was a good reflection of his TT ability.

I don't think he'll ride the Giro again, not until he has his allergy problems under control.

Um...some of these options are plain ridiculous! :p

Bradley Wiggins, Ryder Hesjedal and Tom Danielson were plain ridiculous too.
Don't know if Christian Vande Velde could be considered ridiculous but it was before my time.

Then no chance! Is it my imagination or is there a photo in this month's 'Procycling' of him sitting on the stage at the Giro unveiling thingy?

Tommy D was not that ridiculous, he was already very good at the TDS, I actually did bet on him to get into the top 10 before the tour on some betting site (with pretty good odds though).

Sure, he became less ridiculous as the season panned out. But don't tell me you weren't sitting there at this point in 2011 saying Tom Danielson would be able to top 10 anything but the list of longest running jokes on this forum.

That's true. I should have thought of that. He had surgery last year, but it didn't seem to work.

I'm going with CVV also. Can't see how Haussler,LeMevel, Millar and some of the others are on there and CVV isn't.

Regardless, he had been top 10 in a GT three times before. No comparison.

I think the idea is for it to be an unexpected result, like it was with their former top-10 finishers. Vande Velde wouldn't be that unexpected (certainly compared to these guys).

Lol at so many people voting for Dan Martin.

Aren't you guys forgetting something? ;)

He has a big Irish fan base even though he's British. To be fair he stands no chance of a top 10, maybe top 30.

Can't see how this can be considered a surprise, many people said all along that if Danielson managed to keep healthy for 3 weeks then he'd be top 10 at the TDF. Not by any means the most surprising top 10 from the latest years, not even close...
