I know that this thread already exists, but given his performances at this year's Giro, Eddie deserves a proper thread.

Eddie Dunbar (born 1996-09-01 in Banteer) is a professional road racing cyclist from Ireland, currently riding for Team Jayco AlUla. His best results are winning GC Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali and winning GC Tour de Hongrie.

I'll update this post later with more details (as a Corkman, I've been following Eddie's career since he was a domestic rider).

Fun Fact: As an underage/junior rider, Eddie often used to ride 50kms from his home in Banteer to race in a local handicapped league race in Fermoy, start on his own 3/4 mins after a group of top domestic riders, catch all the other groups and win the race, then cycle home.

Agreed, he had bad luck with crashes and injuries while at Ineos, but given he is still only 26 and this is his second grand tour, I think he has plenty of room for improvement.

I was mad when he renewed with ineos when his previous contract expired. He hasn't ridden a GT in 4 years after showing very good promise in his debut Giro (2019). Still a lot of years to develop but not riding a GT for so long is absurd for this kind of talent.

Makes you wonder what other offers he might have had and what Ineos promised him (in regards to which races he'd ride). The initial contact made sense after AquaBlue folded, but it was clear they never favoured him.

He's also down to ride the Vuelta this year. If he targets GC a Top-5 seems like a reasonable ambition given there's only 25km of ITT although it might make more sense for him to go stage hunting instead.

Riding so well./..He needs that little bit more but he is young and has time to get it. Wasted too many years at INEOS. Probably didn't get paid super salary either (which is one reason riders stay there). Must be a confidence thing as he always had talent but now this Giro will do wonders for his confidence

He just needs a route like this year‘s Tour, but in general improving TT is important

He was a really good TTer for his size in the u23 ranks, in 2016 he finished 9th in the u23 WC (ahead of Cavagna, Affini and Ganna, who always underperformed in the heat) and 6th in the EC ITT.

This, he was already babysitting Sivakov in the high mountains in his first gt back in 2019.

Down to 5th with Pinot and Arensman, both within 20 seconds ahead of the TT. May end up slipping futher down the GC but its been a breakout Giro for him regardless.

Yeah I'm a little concerned for tomorrow, he looked gassed in the final couple km of Tre Cime.
His recovery will improve the more GTs he rides, I guess.

Everyone within a minute or 2 of him either way is a good climber who can occasionally TT. It’ll take a very good performance to hold or even improve his place.

I'd be very surprised to see him overtake Caruso and I'm afraid he will drop behind Arensman, possibly Kamna too. As for Pinot, hard to tell.
