Edvald Boasson Hagen - How Good Is He

Page 4 - Get up to date with the latest news, scores & standings from the Cycling News Community.
Looking at the situation in Tour of Britain it's no surprise really. First of all there hasn't been a stage where the peloton has been disintegrated in any way and the team has only had to bring back a few break away riders and with the strength of Martni, Lövkvist Monfort and Kirchen in the team they have lots of power to keep the peloton together. They've also had some help in keeping things together from other teams.

Then as for the sprints it's clear that EBH is by far the fastest sprinter. He's the only one of the sprinters present that I have seen being close to rival the very best sprinters. The only sprinters in the world that I would count as faster than EBH are Cav, Petacchi, Farrar, Greipel, McEwen, Boonen, and a few more. The rest of them he can pretty much beat in a fair sprint.

a lot of its down to columbia, but i would ask, weve already got a tour of britain thread, weve already got a EbH thread.. did we really need a third..?

i think theres one rider far more impressive than EbH in the ToB anyway.. :p

I agree with your thread point.:) Especially since there's already one that you started;)
and that one's already going through an unfortunate metamorphosis.

Getting kinda annoyed reading this thread.

Edvalds peformance in britain is good, but not super. There is no need to say it's out of the ordinary and exellent, or to say it's only because of the weak competition or Columbia is so good.

But for you who mentioned that the racing has been pretty straight forward so far and that's one of the reason Edvald has won so many stages?

Last year he won 3 stages from breakaways, and crushed Di Luca several times. So needless to say, had there been any splits in the peleton or harder racing, Edvald would have placed high there too:)

um, Cav? Does 6 in the TdF count?

i think he means 4 stages in a row, I dont remember if anyone did this before, although they probably did sometime somewhere, or I´ve forgotten some really obvious thing......

I believe Cipollini won 4 stages in a row during the 98 or 99 tour or something like that...I would have to check it to confirm but that's what my memory suggests.

Well, you've made the Tour of Britain thread your personal domain, putting restraints on posting for all and sundry until you've had your fix of daily suspense-release (why not just avoid visiting the forum in the meantime?), and I frankly couldn't care less waiting for your precious deadline on an open forum.
As for making yet another EBH-thread, I fail to see your problem. You're not a moderator of this forum, and trying to police everybody on an open forum to follow your personal preferences as to structure is a futile effort.

Other than that, the story of Kai Reus' last two years since his nasty fall on Col de l'Iseran easily earns him a hero's welcome in this years' ToB. Stuff they make films about. EBH's four wins are great, but not wholly unexpected, looking at the roster.

I looked on wiki and followed a link from there and you are right, seems he won 4 in a row in the 99 tour de france, i dont really remember this far back.So does this mean if boassan hagen wins another stage in the tour of blighty he´s better than cipo? :S..... well its just the tour of britain but edvald seems to be doing really well here was it 3 stages last year and 4 so far this year... well done to him, even though it isnt a big race, it has some good riders in it. He´s definentally leaving columbia isn´t he? if he is i look forward to what he´s might be able to do.

oh chill out ya grumpy old blot... several people in the tour of britain thread had asked that results be kept out of it for a very particular reason.. the main interst in the race is from the brits and the tv coverage is daily at 7pm-8pm wasnt difficult to keep results off till then.. second point i wasnt trying to police everyone, but this forum has a long history of pointless threads

alternatively you could have just kept your trap shut.. but then again.. i could have as well...

i do appreciate your comments though ya sanctamonious old coot.. im off to hide in the clinic where there seems to be some good stuff being passed around..

Happy-hour in the clinic? The place where the mere mention of "a pint" brings up associations of Piti, Fuentes, Basso, Ullrich, Landis, Rasmussen, Klöden et al? No thanks!:D

(Which is also why the second thread about EBH you mentioned should be allowed to die in obscurity, as the D-word reared its ugly head in connection with brave King Edvald).

Have a nice weekend, though! But please don't post in the "Worlds" thread till thursday night at 9PM, when I've seen all the reruns of Cancellara clinching the gold in slow-mo!:p

or a moderator could split the thread and move the relevant section to the clinic.. you will notice in this thread that one person agreed with my view and one person (yourself) disagreed, and i had may no comment apart from my two earlier.. sometimes it is better just to keep quiet, say nothing, and avoid controversy.. oh.. small point.. sarcasm really doesnt suit you.. ;)

Have fun.. :D

The man of the tour has to be de Gendt who has livened up nearly every stage, pity he hasn't managed to stay away on just one occasion and get a deserved stage win. And as someone else says, Reus is the other story of the ToB with his remarkable story - shame Rabobank didn't have a full squad to be able to defend his lead.

I would like to see Sky sign Thomas de Gendt, as he is young and exciting. If it is true that they are signing Pauwels then it's possible that the five-man breakaway could all be riding for Sky next year.

Back on topic...EBH ROCKS!!! He is a super talent...one that comes along very rarely. He has been on the radar for quite a while..since his teens...he is not a flash in the pan. Also, these wins in ToB...pretty "easy" stages...sprint finishes...not too surprising. I hope this kid kicks *** for years to come. Rock on!!!!

Agree with Tim. de Gendt is everywhere. Pretty much in every breakaway so far. Contesting the KOMs and the intermediate sprints! Every day he is interviewed he says "That's it, no more breakaways." Then next day he's at it again. Brilliant:)

Could be wrong but I think there was a stage race in Germany a few years ago where Petacchi won all the stages and the overall. Will check this but EBHs performance is very impressive.

Yes International Niedersachsen Rundfahrt in 2006. 5 stages & overall.

Don't make him pull out the certificates! (I still have one saved if you need one)

Seen one stage, you've seen 'em all.
The GC dominated by bonus seconds and the KOM winner, all set to take the points, too.
Sums up this dreary event.
The stomach churningly uber-ebullient/overly excited commentary is a turn off in itself.

Edvald Boresom Hagen? Talks like he's a ventriloquist's dummy.
Saving all his animation for the bike, I suppose.

Columbia train is becoming a really boring pain.
USPS/Disco of the flats.

QUOTE]

And how is your norwegian these days? Managing to be your glitzy suave self in a foreign tongue, are we?
For crying out loud! 22 years old, from a rural backwater even by norwegian standards, finding himself propelled onto center-stage, what did you expect? Graham effing Norton?

Boasson Hagen

What's with him this season? I think Oman has shown that no matter how much Sky want him to be, he's not a sprinter, so what is he? His recent comments about Cav joining were a bit worrying, in that he'd probably become Cav's lead-out guy, but that's not very ambitious for someone who last year was the next Classics Great. Or are we going to see him reborn into the classics mould in the spring and he's just keeping a low profile?
