El Pistolero : Please put your hands ON the DROPs of your bars when sprinting

Umh ... what a shame, Alberto Contador was THE strongest today [stage 4 TdF] and I reckon he would have won the sprint had he put his hands ON the drops of his bars [like Cadel Evans & others] instead of on the brake-hoods.

If they want to make a sprint count, the SaxoBank director-sportif(ves) should ask all their riders to put their hands on their handlebar drops in a sprint.

There are far too many people holding their brakehoods in a sprint, it's just amateur like.

Pointless thread is pointless.

not pointless....another good opportunity to point out the relative lack of on-the-bike smarts of both your beloved cap-pistol boy and his DS Riis ....

and with respect to this year's Tour de Farce, that IS "on point"

;)

I would imagine he's figured out by now how he prefers to sprint.

what does contador know about his sprinting preferences?

random forum guy is in the know brother.

btw this was an uphill sprint so the hands on the drops isn't nearly as important as in flat stages.

btw just so you know in mende when the last k was flat he sprinted against purito with his hands on the drops. . . so . . .

AC doesn't like to sprint anyways, if he wants to win he gaps everyone else or if someone kept up with him he just gifts the win.

CONTADOR sure wasn't gifting anything or he wouldn't have gone for the pass at the line........ do you even understand bike racing?

THANK YOU Montagna Lunga.

Actually, maybe I should not have said anything, so that those "on the hoods" sprint types will always hit the line BEHIND me.

But I do like El Pistolero, he fights HARD for his wins and it's up to the Saxon DS's to remind him to use his drops.

BTW, uphill sprinting is no different to the flat or downhill varieties. It's very simple, to go safer & quicker : keep your hands ON the drops.

Not for nothing, but this is a garbage thread. YOU pointing out the lack of on the bike smarts in regards to a 6 time GT winner. You may be a brilliant rider yourself, but please.......
Over and outta here.

No, he wasn't. Evans had a mechanical in the last 20km, chased back on to the bunch, got back up front, lead out the sprint and still won. I don't think there's any real doubt who the 'strongest' was today.

Even 6 time GT winners need help from the director sportives sometimes. Just because someone is a 6 or 8 or 12 or 20 GT winner does not mean they know EVERYTHING and cannot improve their sprinting technique. El Pistolero is not known as a good sprinter and the experienced riders will tell you that sprinting HARD on the drops of the bars will make a difference [uphill, downhill, flat, on-the-track ..etc].

I was talking in general, how many times did Contador ever try to sprint for a stage win and won? All his wins have been solo efforts.

Clearly it was Cadel Evans. You are just too biased and narrow minded to see it.

contador made the selection in a small section and gilbert was burned by him when he reached him. he followed the group and the favs to win the sprint in the flattish end were gil thor and evans. however, the skinny guy almost beat the more muscular and hot fav evens. 2 more meters and he would've won.

i believe that he is the strongest guy (contenders) in the peloton right now.

I think he won by centimeters. BFD.

Right. For sure it was not AC. Nice to see Cadel win, especially against "The-one-who-should-not-be-racing".
