the topic made me curious what to expect for the next years:
2022 - Wollongong:
just for a comparison with the coming years circuits, the one from this year:
the typical 'classic rider' type of world circuit. A real punchy climb in the middle of the circuit, with just before already a short 8% bump. But also with 10+ k of nothing between every climb. We know the result already.
other circuits from the past:
2023 - Glasgow:
already discussed in the general discussion topic and her above:
2024 - Zurich:
a bit of a weird circuit. Climbs all in the first half of the lap. So all in 10 k a small bump, a steep wall, a somewhat longer climb, and some long false flat with steeper parts. Than a long downhill before to go back to Zurich. So, a lot of climbing in 10 kilometer. But also quite a long lap, so it tacks awhile before the riders will reach this part of the circuit again. Partly a dissapointing lap if you see what is possible around zurich and compared to the old circuits of the
Züri-Metzgete . (old version with the regensberg, later editions with the Pfannenstiel). On the other hand, there is still enough possibility to race, without being it to hard so that riders can wait till the last lap. Dificult to predict, a lot of riders should be able to perform well on such a circuit (ok, no sprinters), from climber types, to more classic riders.
It has some similarities to the Bergen circuit, but a bit more dificult. Both races has the climbs in the first half of the circuit. The difference however is that the first bump in Zurich seems to be a real steep wall, the main climb is comparable, but a bit longer in Zurich, and afterwards there is still 1,5 k of something in between climbing and false flat. So hopefully it will be a more atractive race than in Bergen:
2025 - Rwanda:
The circuit is not know yet, but we can hope it will be something like this (circuit in the tour of Rwanda):
It would be a really unique event. Cobbles are rare in WC and cobbles on a climbers type of circuit even never happened before I guess in a WC. Besides, it would be africans first WC cycling.
2026 - Montreal
I haven't read anything about the route yet, maybe they use the same circut as the GP Montreal? It would be a very typical world championship circuit.
2027 - Haute Savoie
Finally after Salzburg a real climber friendly world championship. I haven't seen any route, but it could be something like in 1980, one of the hardest WC ever raced:
