Emanuel Buchmann thread

I think Bora should have taken buchmann to the giro purely because their team for the race is weird and he would offer more value than kock, Mullen or aleotti.

But I'm not under any illusions that he would be a podium threat.

If you're a 31 year old guy who was a pro for 9 years, and it takes a public dispute with your boss to be motivated enough to push yourself to the limit on a training climb, probably you won't be too successful

Maybe they nominate him for Hungary and he can show his form there. He was good in Frankfurt but not of the charts crazy good. In 2018 or 2019 he was better on the Mammolshain climb although the race was overall easier.

We also should wait until the Giro is over...who thought Denz would win 2 stages last year. Maybe Koch or van Poppel with Mullen can surprise. Rider selection for the mountaineous stuff looks really great with Schachmann and Martinez getting on the stage podium and Aleotti/Lipowitz with great to fantastic domestique work. Hard to argue about that atm.

So Buchmann will try to Zubedia his way into top 10 rather than going for stage wins?
Tbf that's basically all he ever done his whole career.

But yeah, surprised to see him get the same time as MVDP or Pogacar on a stage like this. Would be hilarious if he - fueled by his anger of being iced out at Bora - gets his best GT result since that infamous 2019 Tour in this years Tour with freaking Cofidis (I'm not counting riding Hindleys coattail in the 2022 Giro to 7th in GC as a result).

Buchmann lost another 6 minutes on the main top 10 contenders yesterday. Of course that was not at all his terrain, but it's very hard to imagine him sneaking into the top 10 in GC at this point. 10 minutes to 10th place is a lot and I don't expect too many guys ahead of him to completely crack in the mountains.

This might be his last Tour and Cofidis is fighting relegation, so the question is what will be his strategy for the high mountains. I think that, from a points perspective, it's clear: the difference between 15th and 30th in GC is only 60 points, so a top 5 in a stage would already be worth more. Will we see him in the break in some of the tougher mountain stages in the next two weeks?

he yesterday said that the plan was to make a decision on the rest day, but with this gap now, going for stages would obviously the better choice.

Problem is, that apart from the final two mountain stages, more or less all starts are flat. He will struggle to make any breakaways this Tour, no matter what he plans to do.
