I believe the UCI should allow Saxobank to retain their pro-tour licence. The UCI granted the licence knowing the Contador might get suspended.
I also agree that Riis made a poor business decision betting on Contador.
Saxobank has a great team of riders signed up and they would find it difficult to find another team at this time.

This points system sucks; at least the way it is structured and administered.

Whoa, so you are banned from racing (or retroactively banned) for 2 years, then once you return your points from your results are not accumulated for another 2 years?

I admit I am not a rule officianado, and I didn't realize this. I think it is BS, though.

Thanks.

What the UCI does is often BS, and this is no different. Here's a more solid link from recent times if you want.

NetApp might not be the worst team at the Giro after all

While that's a good zinger (made me laugh), it's not like Contador was gonna ride the Giro anyway, right?

Well that's a fail for me. Don't know what the hell I was thinking.
Actually come to think of it, with Contador banned, his amigos(domestiques) might ride the Giro, and actually do something there.

Must go sleep now.

So if I understand you correctly, you are arguing that a team should lose the points from a rider only when that positive occurs on that same team. Is that right?

I'm arguing that given the time lapse between a rider testing positive and the information being released to interested parties, (never mind resolution of said test fail) exposes a large flaw in the way the UCI's points system functions.

IF the UCI knew of Contador's potential time bomb test, before he signed for Saxo, on August 5th, were they not duty bound to inform Riis?
IF NOT, then how can the same strict liability blame be fairly laid on Saxo's doorstep?

I'm not sure whether long term, bio passport irregularities could produce a similar scenario, but it is possible that other teams could be sitting on a similar time bomb, without knowing it.

Anyhow, I'm sorry to see this thread end up in the Clinic.
I thought we were on the right side of the line with this.

It's the case with Movistar and Valverde...

But maybe Riis can argue that he hasn't actually been banned because he doped.

Contador wouldnt ride the Giro anyways. But I am thinking that Majka who was maent to go for the GC in the Giro might ride the Tour instead now. So indirectly this might indeed worsen the Saxo Giro team. Still I expect them to do something. I know they would build a train and try to setup JJ for stage wins.

I think there´s a lot of clairvoyant people in this thread, who´s gonna find out, that not only will Saxo bank keep their PT license, they will also prolong Contadors contract, get the riders with the nessesary points for next years PT, get another Co sponsor and kick some **** the next years to come.
You really don´t know anything about Riis do you Pistolero?

But we will know in about 3 hours.

Even if Saxobank loses it's pro-tour team status you may still see it invited to the TdF and other classic races.

Of the GT's - I can only see them getting invited to the Vuelta.

The license decision wont be taken in days but will be 2-3 weeks (lol another long delay chain?? ;) ). Saxo Bank will have the chance to be heard in the matter.

EDIT: Personally I think Saxo got a pretty strong case arguing that the lack of points from the other riders has a lot to do with the fact that most of them worked as helpers for Contador instead of making results for themselves; that Contadors points is a result of the work of the whole team.

Wonder if Mancebo is available.

Cimber: if everyone on a team works for a guy to get results, and the guy leaves for another team, well too that's too bad for the team he left. But yeah i get your point, Contador's never left Saxo, so this argument is somewhat different

He would leave at the end of the season then. New riders with points would be brought in. Not quite the same.

I know, but as u say there is a difference cos he is still on the team and it wasnt a result of a contract expiring.
