Tbf Lotto don't have that many guys who can both get over a hill and commit meaningfully to a chase compared to a lot of the other teams their size, with them racing Romandie too (which I'm not sure they should have) it's inevitably going to be slim pickings here. They're going to need to find a way to improve his support in these races, especially if they want him to stay after his contract is up at the end of next year.

I agree, that's the one aspect they lack in, like you said the combination with Romandie isn't easy. For example Paesschens and Sweeny were ment to ride here but had to replace others in Romandie. But... riding with 6? While Drizners for example was on the provisional startlist, he stayed in Sierra Nevada (while Beullens did came back), or just give him Eenkhoorn and Van Moer (they could both be a back up plan, and even they are not in the first group they would definitely be there with De Lie)... They don't have a lot of option, but they had some imo. Feel like they completely underestimated the parcours and other teams intentions.

They kind of can give him a good team, but for some reason they chose not to here.

They rode Romandie for Van Eetvelt, but well... we all know what happened there.

I don't think that will happen given the spot on the calendar honestly. Most good punchers are either in a rest period, preparing the Giro or in Romandie.
Yes, it's possible SKA was only here because he got ill during the spring, just when he was looking on top for. Seems to have recovered that now, but just at the wrong time? He's likely to be only be a helper for MVDP at The TDS and Tour.

Sometimes the way the race is run governs results - Teams had multiple riders in the chasing peleton BUT ultimately you needed to be in front for the final ascent of the Mamoshan - I'll also add that you had the perfect combination of riders in the front group who were prepared to co-operate to the finish.

That was a clear win! Several bike lengths.
Ewan still got it!
Jokes aside, were some of the parents giving their kids a push at the start to give them an advantage or was that only a thing that they did for those who started a bit behind?

This is the type of cheating the UCI need to look into more! I have no idea which reason it is.

Now keep the route and see teams adapt. This could be a great route for the Ardenne domestiques or the Giro stage hunters to get something else out of there form. The front group had a few Giro participants and of course with SKA and Hirschi big names who are often in the shadow of there captains.

Still also very good for Degenkolb and Kristoff to come in with the second group after such a hard race. Of course it's sad for degenkolb that he couldn't fight for the win but the change of the route is good for german cycling. Zimmermann and Steinhauser made the front group. The other emerging talent shoudl also like that kind of parcours (Herzog, Engelhardt, Heiduk, Hessmann) as no one of them is a pure sprinter but more in favor of a hilly terrain. Also you could guys like Kämna, Arndt and Schachmann target that race in the future. Next time around maybe Lotto brings Kron and van Gils to this race. Uno-X could bring Johannessen and Traen. There are still WT points uo for grabs und you can't get them much easier.
And I want to add, Bardiani showed great team spirit today.

Whereas riders from other teams quit or maybe faked crashes or injuries, Bardiani went full gas. Reward were all their riders within the Top-49, their worst one only 30secs down on the winner. All their riders finished the race.

They made their sponsors proud, and showed the German spectators a beautiful look, in their green kits and with their beautiful dark tan.

Good to see SKA win… Good upper body in his victory pose, and still nice shoulder development…
