exactly :S defend well and get some chances and take them, rooney is amazing and gerrard can score from nearly everywhere.. as long as england stay organized they have a good chance of winning, france are one of the best teams here and even though france were in controll they were not close to beating england :S Looking good doesnt really matter in football in my opinion :S I have seen enough so called bad teams win things to know better. Englands standard players are good enough and they have a few great players that can make the difference

Looking good matters, but I think that is more relevant to club football than international tournaments. There you play to win, nothing more.

My opinion on the Danish defensive debate is that while the Danish defense wasn't horrible or awful, it definitely wasn't a defensive masterclass. The danes won, not because of their defence, but because the Dutch were wasteful and missed their chances.

The England France game confirmed to us that England are at the Euros to bore us to death.
I don't blame them though. They have a crap midfield and cannot play possession football because none of their midfielders can pass the ball well, and their players aren't technically skillful to retain possession. They also don't have any ball playing defenders so they cannot build from the back.
The only way they can win is to defend well and hope to utilize their pace and hit teams on the counter.

Ukraine vs Sweden was very enjoyable, but I thought Ukraine's midfield played better and they controlled possession more. Kallstrom did set up a few chances, but i thought he and Elm were bypassed in midfield.
I have heard that Elm is highly rated, but this was the first time i saw him in action and didn't impress much to me.

The heat could well have been a factor in the England-France game although the game was played at their equivalent of 19:30* so temperatures would have been dropping from their peak.

Roy was always going to be pretty steady in a game like that. I was most disappointed that when england attacked towards the end it was only 2 or 3 going forward. Surely england could have sent 1 or 2 more forward. Also, with the heat and tiring legs i thought that Walcott should have come on earlier and had the chance for three or four runs at defenders. Midfield was generally very deep as well meaning they didnt link up that well with the attack and when balls were half cleared they often ended up at French feet.

*I dont care what time it says on the clock, the sun actually sets in Donetsk 2.5 hours earlier than in London.

Spain looked good in the last two tournament wins but they made for very dull games - just suffocated the opposition. As much as I respect Spain for there amazing technique and movement I hope they don't win so the football it more interesting. Saying that the Italy game was interesting.

England are usually good to watch for the neutral as they often ship a lot of goals/implode but they may well just slip out obscurely this time around.

They will struggle when they go behind and have to come out looking for a equaliser.

Would love to see Russia against a better opponent in the quarters.

Well, it's pretty much guaranteed they'll play a very very good opponent in quarters (if they make it)

Well, if Denmark manages to make it out of that group, I will consider them a very good team. Of course I would rather see Russia play Denmark or Holland, than Portugal or Germany, but it's gonna be tough regardless.

But yet again, don't wanna get ahead of myself here

lol you trolling the dutchies?

No. He's right. Our style of play suits the Russians much more than Portugal

Portugal plays defensively themselves so Russia's counter-attacking won't have much effect because Portugal keep many behind.

The Netherlands however... play much more forward and leave giant spaces in defense to counter... Just like Euro 08

Well, our recent record again Portugal is rather pathetic.

But doesn't matter which one of those we play, we gotta stop sucking this bad in the early minutes of both halves

Well as a meaningless stat (don't feel like talking too much about the game anymore), Russia is now 0-5 with 3 ties all time against the hosts of World and Euro cups
