Since the lack of Belgium in the last big tournaments, I support the Dutch.
Although I think Germany will take this.

The Netherlands lack a decent defense. (If we only could combine Belgian defense with Dutch offense!)

Has anyone tipped Spain yet? They are still the best team in Europe for me. If Torres or Llorente can replace Villa's goals then they win hands down.

Hitch - spot on with the comments about the poisonous UK media.
For some strange reason they kept their mouths shut about the olympic coercion and how we've towed the line with that, and no doubt would be equally pliant towards the football authorities had England been awarded the World Cup but they weren't so the xenophobia is in full effect and those terrible foreigners are in the crosshairs.

Danny should has been in Liepzig in 2006, a great day out with the orange fans but the Serbs were mental.

Edit: why does the profanity filter not like the word S P O O F?

But they didn't tow the line with FIFA.Wasn't that one of the main reasons why England got like 2 votes despite having the strongest credentials.

Can't see past Germany and France here. They have the best squads and both are in good form at the moment. Portugal, Italy and England to fail miserably.

Any predictions for the top scorer? I'd put my money on Benzema and van Persie.

Jelavic. The correct answer is Jelavic. And the answer was.. Jelavic.

Van Persie not. Guess Benzema or one of the German guys (Gomez/Klose). Klose always scores

To be fair, the BBC are bitterly opposed to racism and sexism (providing that it applies to the 'correct' race and sex).

Wow, just saw highlights of Turkey ripping Portugal to pieces.

It was like watching world all stars face Portugal's under 16s.

Portugal just could not handle being on the same pitch.

I rate Jelavic but his goalscoring record with Croatia is not great. Interestingly Liam Brady over here in Ireland thinks they will win the tournament but I have my doubts they will even get out of the group. For instance I don't think they will even beat us on Sunday. They will have lots of possesion with the likes of Modric, Kranjcar and Rakitic but Trapattoni will get his 2 banks of 4 set up and leave no space for Croatia to play in between the lines which is what they love to do. Also Olic is out for them which is a big blow.

I watched the highlights of their game at the weekend against Norway and they were poor. Norway were the better team and this is the same Norway team that was so woeful against England less than a couple of weeks ago. I think they are weak at the back as well. Simunic has been a great player for them down the years but he is shoving on in years now and he lacks serious pace and as good as Pranjic is going forward he is equally poor defensively.

Seen dat as well. Pepe got a terrible own goal. Turkey are one of the better teams who have'nt qualified for the Euros.

BTW I see there has been a lot response to the Panorama documentary. I am not going to comment on another country as I have'nt been there as well and like you say the documentary could be sensationalised. There is one thing I would like to ask you though. We had the Panorama one which talked a lot about the intense rivalry between Wisla Krakow and Cracovia fans. Danny Dyer's documentary, the Ross Kemp one and Ardal O' Hanlon on Irish TV also showed this intense rivalry between both sets of fans. Just to let you know the Ross Kemp and the Ardal O' Hanlon's ones were done before Poland was announced as host to the Euros. I also know a friend who went over there and he bought a Cracovia jersey in the shop and he put it on and he got told by people there that he would be stabbed to death around the streets of Krakow if he wore it.

Is this rivalry that bad or has this one been blown out of proportion as well? Just like to know because I heard a lot about it.

Its guys who want to fight, and want a reason to fight.

its like when people get attacked in some bad american neighbourhoods for wearing red in a crips neighbourhood.

Anyway, the point about it being sensationalised, wasn't that it doesn't happen, its that its small time.

Documentaries dont really differentiate between things that occur en masse every day, and things that occur occasionally in some areas. In both cases its not the frequency that matters, but being able to get hold of some footage that can shock people and maybe some interviews.

Sure it can get pretty violent, amongst the hardcore supporters, and it will continue to be like that, so anyone who wants to go in there and make a documentary will be able to.

But at the same time it will have absolutely no impact on a international sporting event during the off season. Or tourists who visit at any other point, unless part of your to do list is to visit high rise housing projects wearing the rival teams shirt.

Turkey also has football violence, from wht i hear on a far larger scale, but it doesnt stop them from hosting uefa ciup and champs league finals.

I am hoping that sweden goes far in the tournament which would also allow ibrahimovic to be top scorer. But it doesnt seem likely as even if they finish 2nd in their group they will likely have to face spain in the knockout stages. So, I think France is going to win their group and go far with Benzema being top scorer of the tournament. Van Persie is good but netherlands have huntelaar, robben, and sneijder who are all good scorers for the national team. For the germans I think klose will be their leading scorer (still wont match benzema) as I dont really think gomez is that good, he is just set up so well by bayern's midfield.

England still too high. Even Italy and Russia have better chances imo. Agree about France, very dangerous side.

Spain priced too highly imo. Their pocket sized players absolutely scraped the wc despite being at their absolute top strenght, needing easy draws - and offisde goals to get to the semis.

They might not get that lucky again.

and this year they seem to be missing some of their playes. Who the hell is that playing with torres up front????

Absolutely hard to predict Euro results, that's why I never bet on it, not even with my friends. Only thing that is almost guaranteed, is that there will be an odd-ball team that noone expects to make it come through to the Semis, at least, just with the way the format of Euros is.

One thing I'm almost certain of, I'll probably stay away from this thread on June 12th :D

Expected Soldado in the squad, better striker than Negredo. Don't now Llorente fits in the team, he's not an energetic striker like Torres.
