looks like end of the match for Kedira.
Not bad to have Schweinsteiger on the bench at a moment like this.

Neutral here, don't really like any of the teams, so anything entertaining will do.

Ahem.
How can one not like Iceland?
That's like saying you don't like to take in a fresh breath of air.

Let me clarify. I don't like any of the teams in the current match. Germany vs Italy.

Thanks for the clarification, and sorry for the misinterpretation.
Please carry on.
And go Iceland!
i'm not a football fan, but I can't wait to see them beat France.

They aren't good and all the camaraderie the media are raving about means literally nothing to me.

Hope France spank them good.

Extra time is often boring and penalties are a lottery. Let's solve this and make the game more exciting with the following proposal:

1) At the end of the regular 90 minutes, a series of 5-minute periods of extra time are played.
2) Each team loses a player (decided by the trainer) at the start of each 5-minute period of extra time.
3) The first team to score immediately wins the match (golden goal rule).

It would have the following advantages:

1) By opening more spaces, it would prevent the cowardly defensive play often seen in extra time.
2) It would promote fair play, as teams would know that a red card can end up being more decisive in extra time.
3) Teams would be fresher because a good chunk of the squad would play for fewer extra time minutes, and the golden goal rule would shorten things.

And people complain about Portugal game, yeah this much different, at least we have a gipsy as reference, and we are two clear penaltys down

An absolute abortion of a game, that the Germans have marginally more 'right' to win. They should both be sent home for this game.

I don't understand the critics. I quite enjoyed the game, clearly two teams that respected each other and as such mostly only clinical risks, but It was not that clogged a match like people pretend it was. It was somewhat open.

But boy, such an emotional rollercoaster during that shootout. In the end Germany sort of deserved it, but I feel so sorry for Buffon - most likeable person in World Football, such a gentleman with a kind heart. The Capitano.

Yes, Buffon was really close many times, especially against Hummels and Hector. I really like his fighting spirit. He represents his country with a passion like no other. He is truly the heart of the italian team, both tactically and mentally.

I was really close to having an aneurysm then. I hate penalty shootouts when my team is in them, but Zaza gets most of my hate today. Comes on to take a penalty, then does the stupidest run up I've ever seen and misses completely. Insigne should've been brought on earlier. I guess Germany deserved it slightly more but it was close. It would've been better had Germany played 4 at the back, better in general I mean, because this way they just cancelled each other out. Buffon will still be around in 2 years time, by the way. Donnaruma isn't doing a major tournament at 19, and Sirigu isn't good enough. Barzagli won't though, but I hope Romagnoli will grow (maybe move to Juve with Bonucci and Chiellini). Shame that Content goes, I dislike(d) him but he gets the most out of players. I'm not sure Ventura can do the same.

I'll take 'they aren't good' part for your word.
But seriously, how can anyone not cheer for a team whose members comprise of roughly a quarter of the country's population? (I exaggerate, but I'm sure you know what I mean.)

Zaza's run was stupid, but then it was unbelievable he was brought on in the 120th minute. He didn't touch one ball. That had failure written all over it. The real schmuck was Pelle. Such arrogance, and then missing by a mile.

Anyway, boring game overall. Germany slightly better but hope they'll go out against France.

agreed. I don't share the hate for Zaza. All 'credits' for that decision go to Conte.
What. A. Fool. In fact he should apologize to Zaza for putting him in that position.
It's penalty shootout 101. You just don't do that.
Why not bring him on 20 minutes earlier? At least he would have touched a ball or two before the shootout.

This was a deserved victory for Germany, imo. They were just cruisecontrolling the match before that penalty.
But I'm absilutely gutted about the way Italy lost that penalty series. Totally unnecessary and it's all on Conte.

That said, yes, Zaza's penalty run looked awful, and Pelle looked like a clown, too.

Just think of how many of us would be fired from our jobs if we messed up at a decisive moment for trying a silly gimmick.
