A stage race is not a one-day race. Froome could also do well early in stage races.

Would Vingegaard suddenly fly if this was the first stage of a 5-day race? No, not at this stage of the season.
Would he be dropped like a stone if this was the first stage of the Tour? No way.
He's totally out of form right now and never targeted one-day races when it comes to form peak. The only question are 250 km long races (he may lack endurance for them) but when it comes to shorter races the terrain and his form determines his abilities to win.

That’s because Remco doesn’t agree with your first racing opinion

Then obviously Remco isn't clever enough 🤣.
Once he realises there is a better rider and starts racing accordingly, he may snatch a few wins from Pogacar.
Until then, big balls doesn't mean big brain.

I agree that it's mostly mental. But I also think the specific prep is different to stage races, and that it would take investment and tinkering for Vingegaard to figure out how to perform well.

Those efforts are better spent on climbing and TTs.
The difference is not that big.

Those early attacks made the race very hard, no doms left. Evenepoel means business today, strong ride uphill. The hardness of the race may profit Pogacar, who will attack at some point.
