Only a mere 45mins of pre show today...foolish of me to expect more than 90mins of actual race coverage 🙄

and i thought the contrast between the way the motorsport guys before the pre show started were commentating on their race shows the difference, they were talking about all kinds of very interesting topics, mental health, tyres, track grip etc related to the race, calling out stuff that was happening in front of them & potential strategies.

Versus yeah it's a sexy race erm on gravel which is white...Great thanks for that insight. Oh and here's some interviews from the men's race whilst the women are actually racing and we'll pick Vos as a top pick because well she won the last race and that's how bike racing works right and we cant be bothered to do more recon of the startlist than that.

Rant over, I would stay and watch the rest of it but Ill watch it on fast forward later.

I'm still waiting for the Cox and Kirby show, rather hoping it may implode or explode.

Rob Hatch is bugging the crapola out of me right now. I don't understand the pronunciation of any proper name with an "n" at the end. Most frequently he pronounces PhillipseN as "Phillip-suh". Stuyven is "Stuh-vuh", and the last couple of weeks there's been a whole lotta "Vlaander-uh" instead of Vlaanderen.

I don't speak Flemish/Dutch, but half my family does and I've periodically been around it my whole life. Never have I heard this pronunciation. I don't seem to hear it from the Belgian commentators on TV either. Is this some Dutch pronunciation? Some dialect of Flemish I'm not familiar with? Rob Hatch just being wrong? Me hearing things?

I absolutely want to give him credit for attempting to pronounce things correctly. Certainly an upgrade to the horrific noises coming from Bob Roll or Chris Horner. Hatch seems to speak many languages? I could be totally off. But he's got Dan Lloyd doing it, and it feels like an infection has started.

Native speakers, can you shed some light? Thank you! Not sure why this bugs me so much but I'm starting to find it really distracting.

Following.
I'm pretty sure Jose Been was the first one that I heard dropping the n's.
On a wider point, Eurosport shouldn't let Hatch anywhere near a cobbled classic.

she does drop her n's, and it always amuses me that she puts so much claimed effort into the "proper" pronounciation, yet always reverts to standard Dutch accented English for English name, like she'll call Anna, Onna.

but I think Hatch was way ahead of her in terms of being first for that kind of stuff.

Did anyone see today's edition of De Ronde Van Vlaanderen?
I'm specifically referring to my man Carlton Kirby and his masterful job of describing the race, especially at the end.
After ushering MVDP to the finish with poetic superlatives and putting us to bed, he wakes us up like the best alarm clock ever to remind us there is a race for second place. And he delivered. He made it seem like it was a race for first place!
CK is awesome, as is his sidekick Robbie. They work well together.

I don't speak Dutch/Flemish, but I'm a bit of a language nerd and I pay attention to these things, and I don't think I've ever heard any Flemish speakers NOT dropping the n at the end of such words/names. Tom 'Boon-eh' being the prime example.

He should definitely be fact checked though as he dropped some absolute clangers today in that regard. In my ever increasing middle age I am warming to him again though.
I've also warmed to him, especially in non-GT stage races.

In a classic I think it's more important to actually know what's going on and which rider is which and not speak about random things/riders etc., as there's likely going to be action for 80% of the coverage. In something like Catalunya or Itzulia, where there's air time to fill, he comes into his own.

On Spanish language coverage I watch on Eurosport it's pretty good and the commentary is reasonable. After Flanders Alberto Contador and Juan Antonio Flecha added comments and everything is cool nothing too crazy. If you watch the race coverage in Spanish from Colombia they sound like maybe suffer a heart attack or worse at any moment.. And even if riders are not in the race figure out a way to yell about them.. And now Isaac Del Toro is part of every broadcast and he may not be racing or has dropped out or off, absolutely crazy!! Contador has funny teeth, too white or something, just looks spooky,

Nope, he was as horrible as ever, with the same lame jokes, puns and general cluelessness as always. When there was the 3 together, it was better as there was less Kirby. The only thing that stopped me from putting it on mute. Hopefully this means it will be someone else for Paris-Roubaix as having my two favourite races destroyed by his gibberish nonsense would be very annoying.
