This is the most dominant performance I think I've ever seen at Pais vasco (by both roglic and ala). Contador 2014 and kloden up there as well.
Did Contador even win the TT in 2014?

Generally I agree though. Roglic's potential really seems to be enormous. Are we reaching the point where we have to consider roglic as a potential future gt winner?

I think for now he's the new Spilak with killer TT. He has shown nothing in Grand Tour just yet.

he came second to Martin, but it was him destroying everyone on the first stage that was the apex.

re roglic, perhaps, but pais vasco climbs are still fairly short, and we already knew he can do them. It remains to be seen if he can string back to back high mountain stages.

Got 2nd at 7s from Tony Martin, though it was reported somewhere that he'd had a mechanical

I still think it's too soon. Pais Vasco is propably the one week stage race that is the least comparable to a GT.

Roglic is def in the discussion for future GT winner. Good enough on the climbs, world class on TT. A true Tommy D type of rider.
Honestly I want to see Roglic do something of significance vs other GT riders on climbs over 10 minutes first.
Like dropping Contador on the Galibier?
In equal circumstances. So from the peloton.

Anyway, Roglic' background makes it likely that he's a late bloomer and will still improve, and the current standings are ideal for 2 great final stages in Itzulia

Completely different circumstances.

Of course, there are a lot of sidenotes that should be placed there. Contador clearly wasted a lot of energy getting to the break and overall wasn't at his best, partially due to crashes.
Roglic's performance on Galibier was impressive regardless, but generally a stage hunter will do better on a single stage than if that stage hunter had been racing for GC throughout the race.

I think the next two stages will be very difficult for Roglic because his team stinks and the others know they will have to attack from far out. It will be like it was for Kruijswijk in the Giro two years ago. So we might get Paris-Nice like action which is very uncommon for this race.

If this happens, it will just show the stupidity of having the ITT on the final stage.

Seems like a day for the breakaway specialists. Write down Thomas de Gendt.

Is this the same Gorla climb that is used in the well-known amateur race?

Yes, it's the same, the one Contador and other important riders won

It could be a breakaway but some teams have to try to make it hard for Roglic, he doesn't have a strong team, if they start riding hard at Gorla/Elosua and leave him without a team it could be a good chance to take time

He is so strong though. He can only really be beaten by a two pronged attack, but movistar and bahrain are too far back to really threaten. There'll be attacks, but roglic has to only focus on alaphilippe.

Roglic's team isn't that strong indeed, but his lead is quite comfortable and he will benefit from other teams racing against each other as well. Alaphilippe is the only one within 1.5 minute but I don't see him finishing off a long-range attack. Movistar might be most dangerous.
