What are better climbs to drop others? And what's wrong with Hautacam?
IMO it is not a bad climb for Rogla at all, but if i have to pick two stages that suit him the most for me are the Mountain TT (ideal fresh 25-30 min effort) and the Ventoux one, not the perfect climb but the stage profile is good for him.

I mean if due to the circumstances Rogla would find himself in such position then regardless of the stage you take it. Still, realistically, preparing the plan A, it's too soon and for now better if Visma does the talking. Ideal scenario hence being small bunch sprint and then it depends. A stomp for morale would be good but for the overall likely too much effort involved. So if finishing with the best, that IMHO would be mission accomplished for today. Tomorrow, stage 16 ... and deeper into the race, there it is on where it becomes Rogličes terrain.

If he has the shape he had at the vuelta 2024, i think he can challenge remco for the podium. The 2 best days in the vuelta last year he was very good and had some of his best numbers ever. It was more than just a stomp on the last kilometer.

I was hoping the camera missed him coming in just behind Lipowitz, but he lost a lot of time in the last part of the climb finishing behind Remco. That was a brutal climb. Lipowitz can take over the leadership at Bora and possibly podium

Really fell apart in the second half of the climb. Just isn't there following the giro crash. Podium would have been wonderful but it's looking rough from here, but hey, keep going to Paris and there is plenty of crazy climbing still to come and a lot of people ahead of him untested in the third week.

Hope he can fight back to form. Would be sad if this is his farewell to the Tour and he can't fight back after that farce in the Giro.
Judging by Lipowitz's performance, third or even second place on the podium would have been there for the taking.

Ironically Lipowitz' huge breakthrough here makes this one easier to stomach, i.e. at least the team is going to get something out of this and the pressure isn't all on Rog to perform.

He came, he saw, he got beaten - which eventually happens to all champs especially in such a gruelling sport. As someone said above, Chapeau Rog!

A time trial like this is right up Roglic' alley. Remember Contador in 2013 without legs was close to winning. Obviously he wont get close to Pog, but still, top 3 is doable on that stage

I wish I could feel the same way. I'm German, but I couldn't enjoy Lipo's ride at all because my heart was with Rog all the way. I actually had to turn off German TV, because obviously to them Lipo dropping Rog easily was the stuff of dreams.

Well, if third is the big goal then those commentators can feel free to be ecstatic. But third for Rog here in this TdF was never going to erase what happened in previous editions anyway.

What's done is done. I've also seen him get dropped a lot in his career, i.e. probably more than any regular consistent GT winner tbh. I don't keep a running total but what happened today is nothing compared to the feeling I had when he got dropped by Almeida and Thomas in the 2023 Giro on Monte Bondone. That was a crisis right there (just one among many, i.e. we can go further back to the 2019 Giro as well).

To be fair I do believe his level is better than what he's currently showing here. But at his age he couldn't afford a terrible season and that's exactly what happened with the Giro disaster + infection. It's all just too much and enough to make him worse than he was in the Vuelta last year.

By the way now that the "dream" of third in le Tour is dead can we talk about why it's even a thing these days? I swear no one cared when Richie Porte or Adam Yates podiumed this race.

It's why the Giro was and is the major disappointment of this season because unlike the Tour, Rog could actually have won it.

It's a good question. I think maybe it's because there are more interesting (mostly young) riders than Richie Porte and Adam Yates threatening to podium Le Tour in the last couple of years. Lipo is really interesting to people as a young guy from a country who hasn't had a GT contender in a long time, Remco is a young guy with an already incredible palmares, Vauquelin is French, so that's automatically a big deal.

Yates and Porte are mostly guys who rode for placings in Grand Tours. Some of these other guys can or may threaten all year 'round in huge races like the classics, the WC, or the Olympics as well as GT's.

Because they're all young, it's about hope and the future.
