On some flatter part I wished he kept the tempo more up tho. Froome got 20-30 seconds back and Rogla was on the front on some of these sections. I think chances are that if Kruijswijk set Rogla up perfectly, he is going to get over Aubisque with 5-10 seconds and they aren't seeing him again and we are suddenly looking at a bigger gap.

Yeah also Dumoulin could have contributed as well on the flat part, since it was also in his interest to distance Froome, he only chased Roglic himself on the descent. But it was all up to Roglic to drive it on and oh boy how did Bernal close that 30 second gap with Froome on his wheel, that was truly something to behold. Both he and Froome were goners but just rode up to them like it was nothing.

Great Ride!!! And he does a Telemark landing on the stage winners podium. Great sense of humor!

This guy has GT winner written all over him. Lotto needs to get a few stronger support riders! But Primoz has all the tools and Panache Too! He might even win the TT tomorrow and take 2nd. I'd enjoy that :). Anyway he's made this Tour for me and many more races to come I suspect.

A bit of humor from De Gendt:

And from Kruijswik:

Stronger support riders? Lotto at some point had 4 riders in the group. Only Sky had more. Later they had 2 Lotto in a group of 4. It'll be fine if they keep the current ones

Yeah and Many times in this race, on many mountains, there was Sky with 6 and Lotto with 2! They need a team that can take on Sky. Movistar did the best at that and they sucked. It was Only the Strength of Roglic, with a bit of help from Cruschweak, that has him where he is.

Hated the team tactics today. Kruijswijk in the Tourmalet attack would've been sooo much smarter

In any case, LottoNL will have a tough choice next year. First they'll have to decide if Kruijswijk leading the Giro would be better for the team or not, or if they're in each others way. Personally I think Kruijswijk in the shape he is now rides podium in the Giro, and in a weaker Giro field he'd have a chance to win.

On the other hand, they've extended with George Bennet, who's also a top 10 rider in a GT, although perhaps not in the Tour.

Gesink did a monster job today, and for Gesink we do have to consider that he also did the double. Bouwman and Tolhoek are progressing well, and they should get into the territory of stagehunting in the mountains/good mountain support.

Lastly, today was another day that showed that one top domestique is worth much more than two more average climbing domestiques. Dumoulin had Ten Dam and Geschke for ages, but still they haven't done anything all Tour. And especially in stages like today, with huge climbs like the Tourmalet, riders like Castro and Kwiato get roasted on the monster climb and after that they can't really put a dent in when other top 10 GC contenders go up the road.

It actually worked well with Lotto NL Jumbo having two targets in the race - Three climbers is enough to win a GT.
Yeah, two targets, but three protected riders.

Danish commentators basically said it was 100% that Groenewegen wouldn't get selected next year and Im honestly not that sure. I think he has proven this year he is the fastest sprinter, so do you really let that guy stay home? He is also dutch. Maybe you just get home one helper and rest for Rogla. Should be the case I think. I think its too risky just put all eggs in one basket if Kruijswijk is doing the Giro + Vuelta (or Giro + Tour as a helper). Im not a fan of that - I dont think you need 7 designated helpers. Winning a few early is super valuable to any team.

I think Kruijswijk could have helped more today, he semi rode for himself Valverde style. I would have wished he would have pulled hard on Soulour instead of attacking since he was no threat anyways, but Bardet and Landa were up the road so he also raced for secondary positions which is kinda understandable.
They also have George Bennett who also has the potential to be a scary strong climbing superdomestique.
They'll probably take a look at the various gt routes, Bianchi could push for Roglic going for the Giro win with a strong team that is filled with climbers and they could still send Groenewegen to the Tour with a sprint train + George Bennett with limited support.
They actually have a few cards to play and enough strong riders to have a real impact on all of the gts.

Almost forgotten btw. Roglic does lack 1 skill for a GC rider

Echelon riding

He's been (significantly) behind this Tour 2 times in echelons. 1 time it was even 1'30 difference. He's been very lucky nobody put him to the sword in those stages and this is definitely an improvement point if he wants to win

2nd point: not convinced Roglic is better than a fresh Froome or a fresh Dumoulin (without 1 Gt in their legs, or with Froome 3)

He hasn't proved better than Tom yet!!

This was his first try at GC, I'm sure he learned a lot and knows he has much more to learn. Hopefully being sure to make the front group in an echelon will be one of the things he learns along with better racing nous. It'll all come with more experience at the higher level IMO. The talent is evident.

I would generally find the ITT of little interest when the yellow jersey is all but decided, but I’m excited to see what Roglic will do in an ITT when there’s pressure on for the GC standing. This might set a tone for his tour next year.

Not a fan of Lotto's tactics yesterday, but I guess it wouldn't have made much of a difference anyway. Superb performance by Roglic, I kept doubting him and I was plain wrong.

My guess for next year is Kruijswijk does the Giro with limited support and Roglic is the sole captain for the Tour with Gesink+Bennett+Tolhoek. Not sure they'll find a spot for Dylan.

Gotto be a favourite for the worlds....if he had a team

He doesn't need a strong team to win this WC, he just need to follow main guys (Nibali, Valverde, maybe Alaphilippe..), and strike on that last climb if he can. But my guess is that he's not going to be a contender there...

You gotta remember it's a Dutch team. No way they will leave Dylan out, certainly considering he is probably the fastest sprinter at the moment
