Did you follow ski jumping closely since you knew this?

I did, Im pretty sure he was U-something men long skis local champ at some point.

It was a very sarcastic comment. I don't think I have heard an "expert" talk about Roglic without mentioning his past. Which is interesting, I'm not denying that.

I'm really looking forward to their performance in the Giro. I think we should have called this the Roglič is the new Roglič thread though. I liked Rominger, but he was obviously doped to the gills, hence the preferred dissociation.

I hope they won't miss Tony Martin in the Giro, he's been a part of the Primoz team when he won UAE and Tirreno this year. On the other hand there is no TTT in the Giro, but he's a great helper especially on the flats and slightly hilly terrain.

At least they have exchaged De Tier for Leezer, a wise decision in my opinion, this man is always in the front in the flat tricky situations like echelons or the crucial moments before a climb so is more valuable for Rogla than Floris De Tier who is not really much better than Bouwman in my opinion.
The team should be working like that: Leezer and Van Emden for the flat, Martens and Bouwman for the flat and the first parts of the climbs, and then Gesink , Tolhoek and De Plus for the crucial moments. Very balanced team.

It is even more impressive that it looks like he really is taking this as more of a preparation and not so much thinking of the GC. He didn't follow any attacks today (either couldn't or just didn't want to go over a certain set power threshold). He was mostly in the middle or back of the bunch, with the exception of the last downhill where he dragged the group to Thomas, Buchmann, Gaudu and Woods. But in the end he managed to get to the end in the first group and thought, "Why not, I might as well try". And he won

Roglic really has a very nice kick and sprint. Thats the most astoundishing thing for a rider with such an engine and you would believe to be a diesel climber (but that, at least the sprint, has to be somewhat similar to Pinot, who you also wouldn't think to be fast).

Winning the stage 1 sprint from a reduced group at Romandie was the first sign for me that Wiggins's 2012 season was going to be something truly unusual. Perhaps that is a sign for Roglic.

As well the physiological capabilities he has all the skills. In the Tour I recall he out descended Dumoulin on one crucial mountain I guess this is where ski jumping would definitely help.

The guy can pretty much do everything right now. The week long stage races are obviously good for him, but he can deal with the GT's as well, as we saw the last couple seasons.

If he stays healthy and motivated, given his late start in pro cycling, how long can he be a contender at the GT's? Until he's 32, 33? He'll be 30 this Fall, so after that he's got a few seasons where he can still win these types of short stage races and contend at the GT's. Just my observation.

Really think Roglic should just ditch shorter stage races after this year. GTs and classics.

Also he's a late bloomer so maybe he can contend until he's like 35/36 or something, he really doesn't have much mileage yet.

Depends.

Doing Romandie before a Giro/Tour attempt is what seems stupid to me.

You can argue that, but thats not your average GT rider season either. Usually you only focus on the Tour/Giro and then spread 4-5 week long WT stage races across the season and La Vuelta depending on how you season went.

Anyways, Im pretty sure that a Giro/Tour double would be even harder doing a Ardennes campagin since you have to be at your absolute best to contend there where as in Romandie, a rider like Roglic can win on 80-90% since he is so extremely versatile.

It's like a bunch of dumbass sponsor bobo's saw Dumoulin and Froome get back to back podiums and decided all their dudes needed to try that as well.

Especially with the TTT and the bonus seconds in the Tour, I think they should've gone for Tour/Vuelta with Roglic.

Last year was an oddity with the World Cup schedule conflict and the extra week between Giro and Tour. This year, the double podium will be extremely difficult to achieve, like it used to be. Only a super-dominant rider can win one and podium the other: Roglic isn't that guy.

Great rider though. Solid as a rock, versatile...I wasn't on the hype train until last year. Chapeau. The dude is really good.

Back in my day, we didn't get molly-coddling from our parents and teachers, we had a single pair of shoes to last us the year, we walked five miles to school and back each day, had no smart phones or Snapchat, had no computers to automate our lives, were lucky to get a plain baloney sandwich for lunch (no mustard, even), and thanked our directeur sportif for scheduling us to ride in all three grand tours. And if we didn't at least place in the top 10 in each event, we were put on bread and water rations for a month, confined to barracks, and we had to run wind-sprints up "The Hill" in the Libyan desert at high noon every day till the next grand tour started.
