To be honest I think Pogacar's absence might have been detrimental because his presence would have given Alaphilippe something else to consider. But whatever, it was exciting & Primoz did exactly what I expected of him: attack & go for the win.

He always does, on every terrain, against every specialist.
In all honesty I don't rate Pogacar as high for FW. He hasn't really destroyed the shorter Muritos, and I think Pogacars sprint is relativly better on flatter terrains than on a steep climb. Also Pogacar I think is simply stronger after a long, hard race than a 3 minute YEET climb.

This I agree with. He is still a top5 contender for FW.

In all honsty having time splits for Mur de Huy by 100M would be amazing. In my mind it doesn't seem energetically efficient to wait until the "flatter" final 200km to fully launch, and I also don't really know what power outputs we're talking about here to know if it's unfeasable to win by just being fresher in the final 150m.

I don't think going earlier or later would have changed the outcome. Huy is the kind of effort where you just drop the watts bomb and hope it's enough to win.

But I think he's the favorite for LBL.
Tbh I'm not completely sure what the win condition is for repeating LBL. Are UAE out of that one too?

This was his first FW and I think he gave a darned good showing. Being beat by Ala who knows that mur like the back of his hand is nothing to be ashamed of. Next year he'll be more knowledgeable about when to unleash the stomp!
And Ala rode a perfect race, which is what it took to beat him.

I read on another forum... From where Roglic went at 420m to go till the finish, him and Alaphilippe were 8s faster than Valverde when he did the previous record. They've done the first part of the climb slowly (that also played in Ala's favor).

8s on a 160s climb is a metric fuckload, and I do think the early pacing of the climb is payed a lot of attention to.

I still think Contador must have the record for the fastest first 900m of the final km

And Bananito has probably the record for the first 600m :)

Did anyone notice new bike paint scheme for Roglič? I like it a lot more then before.
I can't post a photo here. Don't know why.

I guess we can now start talking about Roglič and Alaphilippe rivalry on classics, as being a thing. Roglič doing Roglič on LBL 2020 and Alaphilippe returning the favor on FW 2021.

Can't wait for LBL 2021!

From this angle it is clearly Roglic.
