Teams & Riders Everybody needs a little bit of Roglstomp in their lives

I think it was pretty normal that in these races everybody gets a shot. Vingegaard will gave freedomquite often, but Kuss has very limited freedom for a guy that would be captain on most other WT teams.

If you want to keep that kind of level of domestiques for Roglic you have to give them chances in certain races and these kind of races so far ahead of the main goal are perfectly suited. Roglic is a monster, he will be fine.

It was the weirdest podium I have seen. Vingegaard looked like he was about to faint or something. I don't know but his daughter crying so he had to run off the podium with her and he had too many things in his hands and he looked like he was still panting from exhaustion and as if he'd rather be with his family than on the podium then during his national anthem he knew he was supposed to hold his heart but he had so much other things to do. And then suddenly Roglič was on the podium and I didn't understand why.

Afterwards in an interview he talked about how having had covid was "no excuse", despite him having been quite ill. Which made me wonder if that was the reason he was panting so hard on the podium. Also his appearance has changed from boy to grown-up in like six months. He and Pidcock cx so far the most awkward podiums this year. :p:joycat:

I must say that i have never in my life seen a sport person finishing 26th on some sport event and for the organizer to call that person on the stage to finish it off by sprinkling Champagne. While the "enthusiastic music" being played in the background and the name being repeated over and over again. Persons on the podium being like WTF? JV got what they came for regarding this two races. Regardless the "Gino incident" Rogla proved again he is such a gifter. It looks like France has fully accepted Rogla and the respect is now mutual.

In my book the drought on French soil is over!

Funny remarks about Roglic on Geraint Thomas podcast:

Thomas: He is always, you speak to him in the race, "Ahh this is not normal ah, ah I am so tired, the pain in the leg is big ah". I am like.. shut up, you were like that yesterday and you won by 2 minutes.

Wout: I can tell you it's the same in every training.

:tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy:

Journalist (after Granon stage): Primoz, how are you?
Primoz: I barely survived. I feel pain everywhere except my hair.
Journalist: Tomorrow is Alpe d' Huez. Can anyone beat Pantani's record?
Primoz: Why not me, eh?

Great day of racing for Roglic and his teammates

The finish photo was epic:

Laporte and van Aert: „We want to win this race, but first of all, we want to look stylish, like real athletes, during the victory salute!“.

Primoz: „Ah, it‘s only third race day of my season. Why not look like a hobo on the bike today? Victory salute will be difficult, anyways. How do these guys (Laporte and van Aert) do this, riding their bikes without crashing when taking the hands off the handlebar? Ah, I‘ll just dress like a hobo today, and take the hands off the handlebar for half a second, in case we‘re winning!“.

(I‘m writing this as a big, big fan of Primoz… :) )

That was my first thought when he reached up then went back down to the handlebars. Please don’t crash!

Well you can mock Primož all you want regarding his bike handling skills but let me remind you of:
  • His first vitroy in TDF stage which was after he distanced everybody on a descent
  • Him gaining a lot of time in 2019 Giro descent from Mortirolo against a group led by - wait for it - Nibali.
  • 2019 Vuelta stage 18 descent
  • And not messing up last years Vuelta stage 17 descent was not bad either...
A lot of his crashes were not his own fault and it looks like he just has a lot of bad luck really rather than being a poor bike handler. I don't think a ski jumper can be a poor bike handler - his space awareness, his body control, sense of speed and environment... I mean I find it really hard to belive you can jump down that hill and have problems riding a bike.
