I actually think it looks a bit like Almeida. Seriously. It also fits his way of climbing.

It also looks like Gaudu, who of course climbed in a similar fashion during the Tour.

Addy Engels saying Roglic was barely speaking initially yesterday. I don't think it was close between starting and not starting today.

There were no fractures or no concussion, but it was a massive hit anyway and the body and mind must have had enough.

I would guess, crash was so quick and hard it took him totaly by surprise and maybe also hit his head (slight concussion).

Yeah I think he's done riding around injured & in pain. Been there, done that. Based on the comments by his physiotherapist (the fact he advised against riding this Vuelta to begin with & also criticized the team for their handling of his previous injuries this season), the Vuelta was over as soon as he hit the deck like that.

I openly admit as a massive fan of this rider (& the man himself) I've been spoilt. He's got this reputation as a guy who never quits & always comes back, so it's too easy for us fans to just sit here & believe he's invincible with eternal 'bounce back' powers. But man, to go from the problems in the TdF to finding some form here in the Vuelta again (at least to the extent where he was putting up a real fight) to this? It's way worse than La Planche des Belles Filles.

That final 3km was like a microcosm of his career. But whatever the outcome was (for all intents & purposes a freak accident), it was still freaking glorious. And totally Rogla. Even the horrible ending.

Just as a well spent day is followed by a good night's sleep, so a good life lived is accompanied by a pleasant death.

I‘m glad that Fred Wright escaped this collision with Primoz unharmed and healthy. Otherwise, Primoz‘ good reputation would have been harmed.

Now Wright will have the feeling that he (Wright) was the wall into which Primoz crashed and had to leave the Vuelta.

Wright is a terminator, an iron man. Not even Primoz can make him touch the ground ;)

He looked pretty stunned...glasses askew, and that stare on the side of the road looked like he was in shock. Really like Roglic, but sorry to see his bike handling is taking a toll on him. Sometimes we just have to enjoy what these guys give, and take the good with the bad...its tough since i like his attitude, but wow he crashes a lot. And i'm also glad that no one else crashed. I was really looking forward to him taking some time back day by day.

But he didn't really crash a lot this year. Two times which is not a huge number. Problem is, if he crashes, he CRASHES.

Engels from JV said Roglič didn't get any broken bones or head trauma. But he got many wounds and bruises, no sleep and whole body in pain today. He was also in very bad mood yesterday after the crash. They also confirmed no one caused the accident, it was Roglič himself.

No plans for his return yet.

Hard to focus when you do that to yourself. He won't know how bad it feels until tomorrow....and the next week.

if you go by number of crashes, ok, he didn't crash a lot, but they are large enough to have an effect..i really like roglic...read that again, i really like roglic, but his bike handling skills possibly need work....crashing out of major tours is unfortunate..especially since he is capable of winning races....but this is just another example of what i have said...we need to enjoy the good things while we can...these guys are gone fast, roglic is a special one..love his attitude, and level of fitness, but wow he crashes a lot. i'm glad no one else crashed with him this time since it was his fault....and i am big roglic fan. facts are facts. i hope he will heal well. in life that is the main thing that there are no lingering effects.

I don't think he has time to work on his handling or positioning. That takes years and he doesn't have that luxury any more. Plus you probably don't really learn it "at will". Part is your natural ability and part is years of experience from racing as a kid, youngster and so on. And he didn't have that.
I also think he's an overachiver. He goes over his limits many times to achive success and that makes him prone to mistakes or bad decisions.

It is what it is. We need to enjoy in what we get as you say. To be a fan of Roglič is pretty brutal.

I just hope it's nothing serious and that he'll recover quickly. Mentally and physically. Come back stronger champ!
It'll be interesting to see what he'll decide. To rest and end the season or maybe ride Il Lombardia.

End of season, I imagine. Bračič spoke of Rog suffering from burnout resulting from his 2021 season, so I think this over for 2022.

It's mentally the main issue, something we as fans probably take for granted (we expect him to overcome this sort of disaster) but it's easier said than done. That mental side of things & his team situation (along with his 2023 calendar) will need resolving.

He gives me a mild form of PTSD.

He isn't a bad bike handler. This is nonsense. He is simply accident prone, with terrible luck, that's all. He is a fine descender, the indication as to whether or not one knows how to handle a bicycle well. He just needs Lady Luck to get on his side.

Finally, something we agree with. He's a good bike handler & a good descender. He doesn't develop mental issues relating to his crashes either (someone like Pierre Latour for example cannot descend at all now because he has a mental block). Tom Steels noted something interesting, i.e. he said as an ex ski jumper his 'scare levels' might be low compared to other riders: Waarom valt Primoz Roglic zo vaak? "Zijn schrikgehalte ligt als ex-schansspringer te laag" | Vive le Vélo | sporza

It's an interesting take, i.e. to say he's essentially a victim of his own courage.
