Even more relaxed stage 13. Until the rest day the mantra should be "fingers crossed Rog doesn't fall asleep at the handlebars".

Strong team performance though. Nice to see Dennis smiling & riding so strong. That says a lot IMO, i.e. a happy Dennis shows the team spirit is good.

TBH it was a disappointing stage by Rogla and by other GC guys as well. It's not what we all were expecting, let's admit it. I suppose Primoz is not in top form following his recent crash and is saving his best for the 3rd week.

I think he is. After the shortening, today was not a particularly good stage to gain time, and I think that he wants to either gain significant time or let Thomas stay in pink.
It's not just that, it was also a small downhill in the finale, and no bonus seconds, so very hard to even gain seconds with a last minute burst. Look at who's still in the wheel when Thomas led the bunch in. He put 13s into Arensman, his own domestique who did the final pull for him. Also these sort of climbs, when raced passively still get done with a negative split.

I get Vuelta 2021 vibes. He's just waiting for a good stage to go for it, and I wouldn't be surprised if Monte Bondone is it.

Also, Jumbo are looking very strong right now.

What do you mean by negative split? Genuine question (im stupid)

I also agree with the general sentiment once it was obvious today wasnt gonna be a big gc day its not all that unlogical for Jumbo/Rogla to decide to let Thomas stay in pick instead of trying to gain the jersey and 15 seconds

He just said for Slovenian media he's still suffering from the crash. Got some stitches, has a hematoma, but it's getting better every day.
The moment I saw that TJV is not pulling for stage win and Roglic has the poker face I knew something was wrong. Next GC day is after the rest day so G&Almeida kinda missed a good opportunity tbh. The headwind kinda saved him, just like in Tirreno.

When they do the first half of the climb slower and gradually go faster until the end of the climb.

Whilst he's doing boxing metaphors (Rog literally quoted Rocky yesterday), the apt one right now is float like a butterfly, sting like a bee.

That bee sting will come next week. When the hammer drops, it'll be decisive. And no I don't think it'll be in the final ITT either.

There's plenty of higher gradients before that.

Personally I think it's stage 19, the last climb is steep and he has plenty of time to recover.

Yup, Primoz took some hard hits like Rocky and needs to recover. Next week we will see what Primoz is really made of.

Roglic is a good poker player. He has a balanced range, which means that sometimes when you do nothing you still have the good legs and can just counter the attack to their face.

Yeah, just like in Tirreno where he wasn't 100 %. What's also good is that Kuss looked in good form and overall the strength of the team is better than expected. Ineos tried to protect Arensman and keep Roglic away from bonus seconds but I think they fell into a trap.

I thought Ali said that.

Who would you say has the eye of a tiger right now?

I don't know. Maybe Pogacar? He's the one with the training montage for the TdF right now on his social media (including running up some steps...), but I was also hoping to see Rog win a stage in pink (a stomp, obviously) so I could call him 'The Pink Panther'.

I'm thinking on Tre Cime if he's in pink next Friday.

OMG, you mean we have to wait another week for anything to happen? I’m hoping there’s some brawling (no, not between Pinot and Cepeda) on Sunday’s mini-Lombardia stage.

I think there are 2 ways to interpret today's stage:

1. Rogla is not 100% due to his crash and the stage was a very successful damage limitation. In this case, job done.

2. Rogla is indeed the strongest of the GC contenders and decided to keep his powders dry. In this case, I'm kind of lost for words. I mean has the guy not been through enough setbacks to know you have to take time while you can? Because you never know when you're gonna need it and it's far from guaranteed that next time, you have the legs to do it.

I'm leaning towards the second scenario. Of course that would make it primarily DS fault but for crying out loud, just ignore the knuckleheads and put the pedal down. Pog would do it. And by the time they get to the Tre Cime stage (and TT afterwards), the outcome of these stages would be completely irrelevant as Pog would have minutes on everyone. This has Addy Engels written all over it. He is just not ambitious enough and that reflects on Rogla as well...

I still hope it's the second scenario though, because it leaves more chance for Rogla to win this Giro.

Considering the GC differences i feel that most of the GC guys were rather happy on how the stage 13 went. That is at least the top 3. For somebody like Roglič it really doesn't make much sense to go all in on a stage where the bunch can't be reduced easily and to at best take a couple of seconds. And then to spend hours with media each day and to have your team at front till the end of the race. If you want to defend the jersey as i am sure that Rogla would. So for week two the main goal in my opinion is to not lose time and to stay healthy. Including team. Team is getting a bit eager to ride at front and that is always good to see. In week three likely the ideal stage for Rogla would be stage 19. Said that somehow i feel that other teams might force Rogla into taking the pink earlier. We'll see.

A mountain sprinter will always be a mountain sprinter. Never dare to say again that he is not a negative rider. Very classy off the bike, on the bike he is just like Valverde.
Wasn’t a mountain sprinter in the Veulta last year when he made the hissy fit kid crack
