Teams & Riders Everybody needs a little bit of Roglstomp in their lives

I generally agree. However, this is a bit of a specific situation. Both him and his team have extra motivation to show the move was a good one (for both sides). I think it’s very important for Bora Roglic starts winning ASAP even if they won’t say it out loud. Imagine a season where he wins nothing, gets super prepared for the Tour and crashes out in stage 3. Being paid 5,5 mil… it would be a disaster…

This applies to everyone though. I reckon Pog's own misfortune in Liège last year probably played a role in his decision to ride the Giro this year (i.e. doubling his chances of securing a major GT victory). All of these stars are one snafu away from a disaster-season.

With regards to Bora, we can only speculate on what we don't know. I mean sure, it makes sense that Bora will want victories immediately. It would even make sense if we think it could help secure the support of his teammates on the road easier.

But then there's Rolf Aldag who in January in the Bora camp said the objective is the Tour. He said they could send Rog to "Mallorca" to win races but that's not the goal this season. They were also cagey about aiming for victory immediately (i.e. raising doubts about whether they were making Paris-Nice an objective or not).

So I'm just letting this one play out. We'll know more about his form in April, I think (in Itzulia).

I generally agree P-N shouldn’t matter for Roglic. However, this is a bit of a specific situation. Both him and his team have extra motivation to show the move was a good one (for both sides). Bora certainly raced like they wanted to go for the stage/GC. Doing a lot of work early in the stage. Trying to control the race. Would assume that they thought that Roglic could win the stage in an uphill sprint.

I don’t need the Remco energy, thank you.

Rogla is zen, so I will be too. Why not, eh?
Some people just won't understand Netserk

To be fair, you have to have a very high cycling IQ to be a fan of Primoz Roglic. His entertainment is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of advanced cycling strategy most of the spectacle he provides will go over a typical viewer's head. There is also Primoz' stoic outlook, which is deftly woven into his interviews. It draws heavily from his former skijumping career for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depth of these standard interview answers, to realize they're not just both intentionally and unintentionally funny - they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Primoz Roglic truly ARE July fans- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humor in Primoz' existential catchphrase "No Risk no Glory" which is itself a cryptic reference to famed AAF general Frederick Corbin Blesses approach to the Korean War. I'm smirking right now just imagining of those y-u-no-attack-fans scratching their heads in confusion as Ralph Denk's genious unfolds on their television screen. What fools.. how I pity them 😂. And yes by the way, I DO have a Primoz Roglic tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes. And even they have to demonstrate they are in my stratosphere of cycling strategy understanding before I show them.

I won't generalize but I'll totally generalize, i.e. everyone, their momma & their dog has been saying for years "no one gives a sh*t about another Vuelta, all that matters is the Tour". So we can easily conclude Paris-Nice probably ranks even lower, especially considering he's won it once before.

But lo & behold, Rog arrives in Paris-Nice with (seemingly based on today) middling legs & kaboom, we hear & read the usual early season stuff about Rog being finished.

I mean... people need to make up their minds with this rider. I happen to believe "all that matters is the Tour" is probably closer to the reality of the situation than Rog being finished or something melodramatic like that.
I don't think he's finished. He's just obviously not in the same shape as he was in the Vuelta last year. Otherwise he would've easily been able to follow, or even stomp.

I don't understand why he was 7 weeks at altitude though, when he rides like this. Not everyone is always able to immediately perform after altitude. He might already be much better at Itzulia Basque Country.

7 weeks? Where did you get that? :tearsofjoy:

If at stage 3 the team didn't perform good in a TTT i feel that today on stage 4 they did a good job. It was a nice opportunity for Rogla to win the first stage with Bora but what in my opinion happened is the circumstances made that less favourable. That is Rogla still had Vlasov but other teams, although with more numbers, were not really interested in going after the stage win. Likely knowing Rogla would be hard to beat today. So in my opinion it was a smart move to keep the powder dry. All in all i am still rather optimistic about the outcome of this race when it comes to GC and Rogličes chances.

Roglič doesn't look in very good form. He's also often out of position and Bora guys are looking for him.
I think it makes sense. He's building towards Tour with completely new team. At his age, he probably can't be at 95% now and again 100% on Tour. I think all in all, they just need to ride it out to adjust to each other and him to build his form up. I don't think he can challenge Top 2 places in Tour. Maybe 3rd place with a bit of luck.

Things are getting spicy. Or maybe it's just an old geezer having a ball:

There is nothing new in that article that everyone doesn't already know. Just click bait

From when he announced that he would leave the team:

The rider’s agent has not commented publicly on Roglič’s situation, the likelihood of leaving Jumbo-Visma or the reported buyout fees any team would need to pay Jumbo-Visma but it’s understood that Jumbo have sanctioned the idea of losing a rider they described as their ‘king’ just a few weeks ago.
Whether Bora directly paid that fee or Rogla paid it and Bora compensated him makes no difference. Other than the question of whether or not that is included in the reported 3-year salary of €6M (including bonuses).
