Teams & Riders Everybody needs a little bit of Roglstomp in their lives

He might still be adjusting to the new team, but i'm not seeing him being very relaxed or confident. With JV he could also bulk a lot of energy for his devastating finishes. I really hope he somehow fits the team to his needs.

Roglic's form at Paris-Nice is worrying. Yes, I know that lots of riders start slow and build up form, but Roglic has always been so good all through the season. Even last year when he was drafted into Tirreno last minute and wasn't planning to race that early as he had injuries at the end of 2022 he still ended up winning TA looking totally untroubled. It is just so unlike him and something must be wrong

The entirety of his time loss was the TTT & a few seconds here or there (bonuses + a couple lost at the finish on Wednesday, i.e. if we use Evenepoel as the main marker).

These aren't excuses, just facts. The race in now atypical due to the route changes & severe weather. I'm prepared for a bit of a GC clusterf*ck this weekend tbh (anyone in the top 15 can win & it won't necessarily be the strongest who takes it).

He's finished. Put a fork in him.

He is better than last year on TA.
He is not old. Geraint thomas is older than him and he is pushing his best power numbers ever, and Roglic started his career more later.

Imagine a world where different people have different biological characteristics and where different riders have different predispositions regarding their career longevity...

Sarcasm aside, I actually agree this is not necessarily worse performance than last year's TA - his mediocre performance on stage 4 could still be down to his extraordinary stage 3 effort. Next stages should tell us more. To quote a colleague: we'll see.

Hugs for Van Poppel:

Roglic lost quite a lot of time in the team time trial on Tuesday. "That was disappointing, but Primoz keeps his spirits up."
"I was disappointed myself, but he gave me a hug and said, 'It's going to be okay.' It was nice to see him do things like that."
"Yes, it's true that he's laughing here. He's very positive and you need that in your team."

Yes, if it was Vingegaard who was losing time this way then I wouldn't be worried. But Roglic is usually so good at getting these bonuses here and there and is usually the one getting small gaps to other riders. Especially in these one-week races. The most worrying thing was when he got gapped by Evenepoel and Skjelmose at the finish on stage 4. Yes, it was only a few seconds, but it's usually his strength to do that to them. It is so unlike him

Well, it's very early in the season for Rog, his first racing action. If he's all in for the TDF, his not having great form now might not be a huge concern. He is a year older ... not the greatest thing for him, now. So maybe he is taking a slightly different approach to his buildup for the Tour. One has to imagine that if he were to win the Tour and not make a podium in any other race in 2024, he and Bora would still consider this year a gigantic success. That said, I think he would need some great luck (and bad luck for rivals) to have a shot at winning this year's Tour.

It's a bit weird seeing Roglic ride like this. No punch, no sprint, not a lot of conviction... maybe he's been working on his endurance on the longer climbs? If so, we'd have to see some evidence of that tomorrow.
It’s weird because we have never seen a healthy Roglic this weak - not since he became a GC contender in 2018. It could be down to various reason - different prep being one of them. But I guess we can only hope it has nothing to do with aging or TJV’s method (not referring to clinic, just to be clear), because if this is the case, we could have a problem…

Tullet and Jorgenson entered JBV and are flying.
Roglic leaves JBV and his sheding time and raising doubts.
Too early to tell but perhaps they have in fact an improved - non-clinic - approach to coaching and nutrition.
Even though he started "late", you have to at some point factor in his age.

He is still there competing though, could just be a "slow" start this season, but he also left one of the best teams and he got a big contract. He has won a lot and has nothing to prove in that aspect.

Sure, it would be great if he finally gets a clear shot at the Tour but I think everyone has to be realistic. Anyone who isnt Vingegaard or Pogacar has no chance at winning, unless they both crash out or injures themselves before the Tour and if that happens the race is wide open.

Cycling is sometimes a lottery and that is what he has to hope for regarding the Tour. Show up in the best shape possible, hope things go his way.
