Teams & Riders Everybody needs a little bit of Roglstomp in their lives

I agree that having two Giro winners plus a Giro runner up in the climbing section, three more or less strong rouleurs plus a young talent, that makes for a well rounded Giro team.

Confirmation, by coach, Rogla adapted his training to better match current crop of top GC riders, on where the racing is done differently as in the past. Selecting Giro-Tour was just as much Rogličes as it was the team decision, coach for example wanted to persuade Rogla Tour-Vuelta combo might suit him better. And confirmation that ultimately winning the Tour is still highest on the priority list for Rogla. Coach believes Pogi and Jonas are ahead and Rogla to fight for podium position at the Tour in this season, here likely Rogla again won't be persuaded into that, by coach, and has a slightly different plan.

I read it as team wanted Giro, coach wanted Giro-Vuelta and Rog could not be persuaded to do Giro-Vuelta.

@Red Rick

Considering lengthy debates were involved indeed Rogla in the end must have naturally gravitated towards doing the chosen schedule. Coach hinting, that whatever we see at Giro, at Tour Rogla still plans to add some percents more. So assuming for Giro a mini peak at week 3 is to be expected on where season peak to still be targeted for the Tour. We'll see.
He also talked a lot about working more on endurance instead of 500m stomps.

In other words, World Champs plus Lombardia are SO in the bag*

*bag meaning hanging on for dear life until 220 km instead of literally dying after 200 km

Collected.

It wouldn't surprise me if he doesn't press for the jersey until the last week if it's possible. Those that assume the Giro/Tour is too difficult a combination haven't seen many contenders ride it for training. Of course he wants to win. The Tour.
Roglic isn't delusional. Number one goal is for sure winning the Giro. he and the them know that he has no chance to win the Tour (of course if Jonnas and Tadej crash out maybe). If winning the Tour would be the goal he wouldn't ride the Giro.

Maybe it’s not both Jonas and Tadej that need to crash for him to stand a chance. This year, we don’t really know Vinge’s level and there’s all sorts of rumours circling around so maybe all Rogla needs is bad luck from Tadej and he could be right up there.

And don’t forget that stating Roglic’s main goal is the Tour actually has some solid basis since his coach said so as opposed saying it’s Giro he’s focusing on which is pure speculation.

We can add that to the mystery that goes unsolved until the Tour lines up. Primoz wants it but that's not the same as having a good race. Wish them all a great race so we can see some serious fireworks as well as emerging new challengers.
