Teams & Riders Everybody needs a little bit of Roglstomp in their lives

Roglič demanded nothing. He's known to be easy going guy that doesn't really care about who get's signed and who leaves. He's not into politics. He left Visma to get more freedom in picking races AND to get a much better pay. I think he was getting around 2M at Visma, while RBH gave him 5M per season.
All in all i think he lost a bit of training options, because i believe Visma has more knowledge, facilities, and know how then RBH. But he gained freedom and money. For his age, i think that was the right call. Winning Tour was far fetched idea already then, but he was totally competitive in other GTs and races, even winning some of them.

And talking about retirement. You don't know the pressure he's under at home. You know Trine owns Jonas basically but she's trying to protect the guy with fire and ice. Lora is not interested in that but she just doesn't want to do everything alone any more and pressure is on for Primož to stop racing (for some time already). You know what unhappy wife with kids means right? It takes away energy, time and focus. Getting older in this sport, you need everything 100% to just try to be competitive.
Od course wives of sport millionaires don't think about the fact, they are getting older too, they nag constantly and money starts to dry out after sporting retirement. Wish them all the best and that Primož doesn't start his third career in something dangerous like mountain climbing.

I think it's crazy that maids are not more common for rich athletes with kids.

This is really unfair writing about Lora. She runs his store, his foundation and she supported him throughout his career.

Here one needs to understand that Lora and Trine have slightly different roles, Trine is not only a wife for Jonas but also his manager. So when Trine threatens Jonas might become stay at home husband, publicly, here she likely speaks more as a manager, then wife. That is whenever unsatisfied in terms of Danish alignment and such. Being married to a fisherman that comes down to longer periods on where husband is at see anyway. As for Lora nagging Rogla to stop cycling, no way, she is too big of a fan. Obviously it isn't always easy, especially once having kids, still the idea Lora is forcing Rogla to stop his cycling career, that is mildly silly, to say the least.

The guy that had to go to the Giro when he didn't want to and said during interviews in the TDF he didn't care is involved in the decision making at RBH? Seems extremely unlikely.

You got to hand it to Rogla, he is GOAT when it comes to media handling and in 2026 season and IMHO this will prove to be a much valuable skillset for RBH.

My point still stands that Roglic isn’t a decision maker at RBH. They don’t first check with him if someone should be hired.

For example they didn't check and aligned with Rogla, on how to approach and race the Tour 2025? Lipo would easily finish third Rogla not joining RBH? Looking at the clip, here you feel that Rogla didn't knew and gave a nod already?

And ultimately if you don't care, then likely you don't undertake Giro-Tour combo in GOAT-ish era. So the dilemma now is should the Tour 2026 be sole objective, or not. Objective circumstances are now i must say rather favourable. Especially when it comes to seeking strategic solutions, an area on where in 2025 season a lot of time that resulted in no viable solution available. This IMHO rather changed. We'll see.

Being married to a fisherman ...
I do wish people would drop this utter nonsense. As far as I am aware he was never a fisherman (yet alone a fish as some post): he worked in what was probably a rather unpleasant environment to support himself while still having enough time to train at a stage when his cycling was not giving him a living salary. It is, I would suggest, enormously to his credit that despite the setback in what were presumably his early ambitions, he persevered and has got to where he is today. I would suggest that winning Tours de France from that position is a greater achievement than doing so having been cosseted by the wealthiest team in the world from the age of 19.
Apologies to CyclistAbi: not directed uniquely or specifically at you.

He was encouraged by his cycling team to take that job in order to provide some structure to his daily life and to make him more mature. I see no reason to assume that the working conditions were particularly unpleasant nor that he was pecuniarily motivated or compelled to work there.

I can't imagine spending 6 hours a day skinning fish to be something people would do for the sheer fun of it. Either way, the 'fisherman' label is nonsense.

Well, Primož was doing a bit of cleaning of the local super market iirc, before kickstarting cycling and I see this as very honorable for both him and Jonas in the fish packing factory and the fisherman nickname is I think very cool with a positive connotation. But if even just for comedy Fisherman's Friend were to sponsor his team, so his teammates would have that written on the jersey, that would be pure peak.

Exactly. Its a pretty standard job among all the other jobs that you don't need any education to do...

That’s what I thought too but I couldn’t find anything besides wiki. Even crazier that I’m finding out, he and Valgren worked together for a little while.

UAE wasn’t really shocking the world and one of the low middle teams while Visma was one of the teams closer to the top when both riders signed in 2019.

Not sure what's super offensive about the fish thing, people just like to hang on to odd trivia. Did you guys know Roglic used to be a ski jumper?

Anyway, Rogla's coach talked before the Giro how it's more difficult to get him into top shape because he struggles to get the highest quality training when he's at home. And if anything it seems to me he really enjoys racing but it's the altitude camps that are the biggest struggle.
