Seems there were a few different factors, but if 2nd at the Tour isn’t optimal (and that’s an if anyway) why prep to race Jonas if that’s going to happen?

Jonas is at a slightly different moment than Roglic, no?

Anyway, my reference was to Jonas at this year’s Giro and why Roglic would bother if that’s the case.

Dempster: "The most important thing or what Roglič is most passionate about, is getting back to winning. The best way to do that is through the Vuelta. Ultimately, he made that decision himself. To be honest, we were open to everything, including the possibility of going to the Tour de France with three leaders, and Roglič would compete in both the Tour and the Vuelta. But as he said himself earlier, you have to be realistic."

I’m a little surprised by this, but glad to hear it (assuming it’s true). I think he has earned the right to have a say until he starts falling off even without crashes and injuries.

In a parallel universe, I don’t think it is all unrealistic that Roglic wins the Giro without someone crashing him out, then places 4th more or less with Lipowitz in the back half of the double. Plus Catalunya. That would have given this year a very different cast. I kind of wish he’d do the Tour with low pressure before the Vuelta but I get where he’s coming from. The problem with the Vuelta is if he crashes out, there’s nothing left.

Yeah, Pogi can get sick or crash. Next year, it will be 5 years since Roglic won a GC against Pogi.
In fairness, that's due to the fact Rogla and Pogi haven't faced each other in stage races in that time. Plus they're both doing Romandie so we'll see if Rogla can pull out a GC win there (although I doubt it).

I reckon Poland will be included too fwiw.

Look anyone who thinks Roglic can take on Pogacar in a race like Romandie is just delulu at this point, doesn't matter how tired Pogacar is after a full spring schedule. If anything Romandie after an all-monument spring is completely taking the piss IMO.

And with the amount they've dodged each other, I believe 100% they actually communicate about schedule and Roglic having a pretty strong preference for not racing against Pogacar when he doesn't have to.

do you think the TdSuisse owners made a few phone calls to Gianetti to have Pog at their 5-day race?
