Wasn't it Emilia 2023 when Rogla executed a proper stomp the last time? Ages ago.

That wasn't steep anymore at all, even a small bit of downhill in there, normally Roglic' stomps are much better on clear uphills.

I'd argue stomping everyone on the Montjuic should count.
Just rewatched the highlights. Beautiful. That Giro was his. Such a shame. A crash outside of his control and suddenly Giro gone and everyone's calling you washed...

Roglic doesn’t have his stomp anymore

They would need to sacrifice Giulio for that.

, but the more reason he should go from a bit farther out. He and Pellizzari should do what they did to Pogi in TDF 2022

Likely they should start to play games with Hindley tomorrow. As for Giulio and Rogla, they likely should start to have some fun deeper into the race, unless of course if opportunity emerges, then to take it.

Hindley isn’t good enough at the moment, and Roglic was perfectly positioned at the start of the climb. He wasn’t able to follow, forget about his stomp and think about different ways of winning

I mean Rogla likely lost too many seconds, for stomp to be decisive anyway in terms of the overall. It won't hurt, though, the team putting him in such position. Today was not it.

Positioning was indeed good, entering the gravel section, having a youngsters ahead, that is something to commend too. Way too often it happens nobody is anywhere near in terms of the front.

So yeah, there are reasons to be optimistic, after today, especially if they crown it with the overall.

I refuse to believe that. He had a stomp last year at Catalunya and then "bam", after two months it was gone. I have no idea what happened, but in two months you can't decline that much. But stomp wouldn't have helped him today anyway, he just couldn't follow the front group on the gravel.

Realistically, out of top three today two rode SB and neither has beat Mathieu, on where Rogla likely was somewhere in the lines of just position me well on the gravel section and off you go. Making sure to finish the stage safely and to slipstream riders such as Ganna and similar. Winning this stage was a long shot anyway.

In terms of GC and potentially a stage win there are better opportunities deeper into the race.
