Dan Jones (playing DS for Sam Bewley during the MTT): I know it's only 10, but eat and drink, mate, eat and drink. In fact, you haven't got any food, so just drink.
(at another time): Bloody muppets. Get off the road!
+ a lot of other stuff.

Sam Bewley: I didn't even bring my radio.

"So the break went away, and Steven was saying they could get 20-25 minutes surely, but Maarten (Tjallingi), he's riding his last race, so he didn't care, he was just riding like crazy. Then, after 2 hours, Valverde came riding by, asking if we could slow down a little, because he had to take a piss."

Chaves: (being asked if potential illness was the reason he lost Maglia Rosa today): Everyone's a bit sick now. It's been 80 hours on the bike, and 3000 KM. I have no excuses.

Lars Bak: I've broken four or five ribs and also broken something in the shoulder. Which is probably why it hurts.

You don't say!

Since there are quite a few quotes above by commentators, I'll add one from Dutch tv. If possible I watch cycling on Belgian tv since their commentaries are a whole lot better, but occasionally this is not possible.

Somewhere in the Armstrong era, pretty early on (my guess would be 2001, but it could just as well be 2000 or 2002) Mart Smeets still was commenting on the TdF live. Throughout the entire TdF he kept hinting at extensive use of PEDs in a rather explicit way (but just not explicit enough that he could actually be sued). My favourite description was in one of the mountain stages, when the peloton was at full speed while led by the full USPS team: "The blue brigade of bionic men." (In Dutch: "De blauwe brigade bionische mannen.")

To me, that's just about the perfect description of the LA era.

Fade to Black is the perfect song to listen after Contador's fall away yesterday, with the music and acoustic parts and solo and these lyrics are probably what Contador is thinking at the moment.
'Now, I can't think, think why I should even try'

Making things a little lighter than the previous discussion, here's Pro Cycling's very own Eeyore, Gianni Bugno. A guy who was always very honest and straightforward but whose head was often up in the clouds so he had some pretty - unintentionally - funny lines.

Alpe d'Huez 1991, he has this back-and-forth with a reporter:

"Gianni, the other riders complained you didn't take a single pull the entire way, then dared to sprint. Why did you do that?"
"I was afraid I'd blow up. I don't know the climb"
"............but you won here last year!"
"I did?"

Do not smile dear. I really meant "was" not "is". Thats the brutal truth.
Metallica ended up on "Kill'em All", Alberto Contador ended on Mont du Chat. :D
I knew what you meant :)
But it is not the end, he will continue fighting till he's finished his last race :)
